Community invited to ‘Messiah Sing-a-Long’ events

Members of the community who love to sing are encouraged to come and be part of the chorus at the sixth annual “Messiah Sing-a-Long.” It will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, December 4, at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church located at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge.

It will also be held on Saturday, December 3, at 7 p.m. at the Norris United Methodist Church located in Norris at 62 Ridgeway Road. Music lovers are invited to either free performance, a press release said.

Both performances will be presented by the Tri-County Community Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Sandy Wells. Members of the choir will sing the arias, and audience members will be invited to join the choir in singing the chorus parts from portions of Handel’s “Messiah,” the classic most associated with the Christmas season. Local church music directors will have a chance to step outside their responsibilities of coordinating music for Sunday worship and other programs to perform in the Third Annual Music Directors Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, pictured above.

Local church music directors will have a chance to step outside their responsibilities of coordinating music for Sunday worship and other programs to perform in the Third Annual Music Directors Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. The church is located at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge. There is no cost to attend.

Lining up to share their musical talent with the community will be ORUUC Music Director Wendel Werner; Andrew Duncan and Jeff Kile from First Methodist in Oak Ridge; Rachel Little from Erin Presbyterian in Knoxville; Sandy Wells, who recently led the Messiah Sing-Along at ORUUC; Alan Eleazer from Maryville Methodist; and Anna Thomas from First Presbyterian in Oak Ridge. ‘Messiah’ sing-along at ORUUC on Sunday, Dec. 8

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church is having its annual “Messiah” sing-along on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Under the direction of Sandy Wells, the sing-along will begin at 5 p.m. Dec. 8 in the church sanctuary, and it will last about one hour, a press release said. The concert will be presented by 30 area singers accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra.

Everyone is welcome, and music will be provided for early-arriving audience members. Admission is free. [Read more…]
