K-25 site has first reunion

Long vacant parking lots at the former K-25 site at Oak Ridge were full again on a recent Saturday afternoon as retired employees gathered for a first-ever reunion.

“There are some folks here that I have not seen since I retired,” said Bob Merriman, who began working at the K-25 site in 1963. “It’s amazing to be able to visit with them and to see them still doing well.”

What started as a plan to host a small picnic quickly turned into much more.

“I said we’ll have it down here at Turtle Park in Oak Ridge, but I think I’m going to open it up to all K-25 workers,” said Pam Toon, an event organizer who started work at the site in 1987. “When I did, massive amounts of people signed up.”

Scarboro Community Alumni have reunion, festivities this month

The Scarboro Community Alumni Association will have a weekend of festivities this month as part of Oak Ridge’s 75th anniversary celebration.

It’s a reunion scheduled from July 27-July 30.

The 2018 theme, “Connecting the Dots,” commemorates the generations that made lifestyle choices that affect the growth and development of a vibrant Scarboro and Oak Ridge community, a press release said.

“Some additional 200 persons will return back to Oak Ridge to rekindle old memories of growing up in the Scarboro community,” the release said.

Festivities will begin with the Meet and Greet held Friday, July 27, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Scarboro Community Center at 148 Carver Avenue. There, people may receive their registration information, talk with old friends, and enjoy music and appetizers, the press release said. [Read more…]

The Oak Ridge High School Class of 1994 has its 20th reunion on Friday and Saturday, September 12 and 13.

ORHS Class of 1969 has Band and BBQ Bash on Sept. 20

The Oak Ridge High School Class of 1969 has its 45th year reunion on September 20, and the celebration will feature music, barbecue, and fun, a press release said. The event is open to everyone that would like to come.

The band Boys Night Out will perform and so will special guests: Bill Capshaw (Soul Sanction), Joe Fincher (Impacts), and Kathy Hill of Claytons’ Star Time fame.

“It’s a night of music from the ’60s and ’70s showcasing the sounds of the Temptations, Four Tops, Tams, and many others,” the press release said. Buddy’s BBQ will cater the event.

ORHS Class of 1960 has Oct. 5 reunion

Members of the Oak Ridge High School Class of 1960 will be turning 70 this year, so they are having a 70th birthday party, a press release said.

Class members are meeting for a Wildcats football game on Friday, Oct. 5, and a luncheon at the Elks Club in Emory Valley on Oct. 6 from noon until 3 p.m.

ORHS Class of 1982 has 30th reunion Sept. 28, 29

The Oak Ridge High School Class of 1982 will be holding its 30th reunion on Sept. 28 and 29.

Activities include a Friday night social and a Saturday night dinner and dance, a press release said. A tour of the renovated high school also is scheduled for Saturday morning.

ORHS Class of 1967 has reunion Sept. 22

The Rogues will perform at a Sept. 22 reunion of the Oak Ridge High School Class of 1967.

The Oak Ridge High School Class of 1967 will have its 45th reunion this month.

The reunion is from 7 to 11 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Midtown Community Center

Special entertainment will be provided by The Rogues, which includes four 1967 classmates: Bill Halsey, Mike Tabor, Charles Collins, and Ronnie Letellier. The band also includes Chip Zulliger, who graduated in 1970.
