The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Oak Ridge is on Saturday, May 16, at Oak Ridge High School Track. The Relay is scheduled from 3 to 10 p.m.
Organizers are asking you to turn out and “help finish the fight against cancer.”

Calling all divas! Get together your girlfriends, your daughters, your mothers, and grandmothers, and come out for a day of pampering!
We have all been touched by cancer in some way. Some have fought the battle personally, and others have watched loved ones and friends go through the fight.
The American Cancer Society is making great strides in finding a cure for this devastating disease. They have come a long way, but still have much to do. This is where you come in. The kickoff for this year’s Relay for Life of Oak Ridge is scheduled for Thursday evening, January 29.
During the kickoff, volunteers and participants will launch fundraising efforts for 2015. The kickoff will be at the Holiday Inn Express at 114 Tulsa Road from 5:30-7 p.m. January 29.

Clinton will receive a Tennessee Municipal League award for police service during a conference in Chattanooga on Tuesday, a press release said.
The 2014 Tennessee Municipal League Achievement Award for Excellence in Police Service will be presented at 8 a.m. Tuesday during TML’s 75th Annual Conference at the Chattanooga Convention Center in Chattanooga.
The award is being presented in recognition of the city’s efforts to provide a model police department to the community, the release said.
“A culture of planning, caring and excellence; it’s what takes a municipal Police Department from ordinary to outstanding,” the release said. “And the Clinton Police Department is all that. A model of efficiency and outreach, officers—several with advanced specialty degrees—strive to provide the utmost in community service and training to area schools and other agencies, while being good stewards of the community resources. Relay For Life of Oak Ridge will kick off with a special Survivors Lap on Friday. It’s a moving experience honoring those who have defeated cancer, a press release said.
Survivors will join together to walk the opening lap, unified in victory and hope, while the rest of the event’s participants surround the track to cheer them on. This empowering celebration is just a small piece of the special experience of Relay For Life, the release said.
Relay For Life is a unique grassroots fundraising event in which individuals and teams of participants in more than 6,100 communities nationwide walk around a track overnight to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost, and commit to fight back against the disease. The money raised through Relay For Life supports the efforts of the American Cancer Society to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
The Survivors Lap starts at 6 p.m. Friday at Oak Ridge High School. Relay for Life continues until midnight at Ben Martin Track at ORHS. [Read more…]

The 2014 Relay for Life of Oak Ridge will kick off at Pizza Inn on Thursday.
The kickoff will include information about changes for 2014 and free pizza, organizers said.

Relay for Life will be held indoors at the Oak Ridge High School tonight due to the risk of bad weather, the American Cancer Society said.
“We will be in the corridor and the B Gym,” representative Kayla Shelby said in a statement Thursday. She said participants should enter through the doors they would use to go to the arena, and the event will be modified, ending at midnight.
On Feb. 9, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Oak Ridge will officially get under way as event volunteers and participants gather at Lincoln’s Sports Grille for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year.
The rally will feature speakers who have benefitted from the funds raised at relay and will honor cancer survivors.
This also will be an opportunity to register a team and get in the relay spirit for the overnight event to be held on Friday, June 7, at Oak Ridge High School. [Read more…]
