Oak Ridge Outdoor Pool open for Memorial Day weekend

The Oak Ridge Outdoor Swimming Pool will be open to the public over Memorial Day weekend this year, Saturday, May 27, through Monday, May 29, from noon to 6 p.m. each day.

This will be a “soft opening” over the holiday weekend, with the pool being closed for the three days following Memorial Day, from Tuesday, May 30, to Thursday, June 1, a press release said. The outdoor pool will then open for normal summer hours starting Friday, June 2. [Read more…]

The Oak Ridge Outdoor Swimming Pool will be closing soon for the season, but before it does, the pool will re-open for one final day this season and the city will host its first-ever Puppy Pool Party.

The outdoor pool will close Sunday, July 31, and be closed through the first week of August. The pool will re-open one last time for the season on Saturday, August 6, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

On Sunday, August 7, from 5-7 p.m., the outdoor pool will host its first Puppy Pool Party, a press release said. All dogs must be non-aggressive and kept on leashes. Pet owners must also have proof of current vaccinations. There is a fee of $3 per dog to participate, or each owner may bring a donation of canned or dry dog food to support the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. [Read more…]

Outdoor pool opens Memorial Day weekend, full time May 30

The Oak Ridge Municipal Swimming Pool is scheduled to open full time May 30 and close August 2. Season passes, swimming lessons registration, and ORCA swim team registration all open May 1 at the Oak Ridge Civic Center front desk.

The Municipal Swimming Pool will have some new activities and schedule changes this summer. On May 23, 24, and 25, the pool will be open noon-6 p.m. for Memorial Day weekend. On May 29, the pool will be open to the public from 1 to 6 p.m. for “The Last Day of School” celebration.

On May 30, the pool will open full time with new hours. Saturday and Sunday, the pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, the pool will be open to the public from noon-7 p.m. Monday through Friday, the pool will be open for lap swim only on the 100-meter course from 11 a.m. to noon. Wednesday nights, the pool will re-open from 7:30-9:30 p.m. for public swimming under the lights. Other than Wednesdays, the pool is available for private party rentals from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Oak Ridge has treasure hunt at outdoor pool on Sept. 20

The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is having a treasure hunt at the outdoor pool on Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hunters are invited to bring their metal detectors and search the grass areas for treasure, a press release said.

For this one-time event, the City of Oak Ridge will allow hunters to use small utensils to dig; however, no shovels will be allowed, and all removed turf must be replaced. Every hunter with a metal detector will be charged $5 to hunt.

The Oak Ridge Municipal Swimming Pool will operate on its holiday schedule on Friday, July 4. The outdoor pool will open at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

The day is Fun Day at the pool as the lifeguards will conduct different activities starting at 2 p.m. for patrons to participate in fun events, balloon toss, intertube relays, etc.

Admission is $2 for children ages 3 to 12 and people 65 and older, $3 for ages 13-17, and $3.75 for adults. Children under 12 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult during public hours at the outdoor pool.

The city’s indoor pool and Oak Ridge Civic Center will be closed on July 4.
