Oak Ridge UU church has July 14 groundbreaking at new site

Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church Site

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church will have a July 14 groundbreaking ceremony at its new 4.6-acre home in front of the Joe L. Evins Federal Building, at right in background, on Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Moving across town to make way for a new shopping center, members of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church will have a July 14 groundbreaking ceremony at their new home in front of the Federal Building on Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Church members announced in late February that they had purchased a 4.6-acre parcel at Oak Ridge Turnpike and Laboratory Road in front of the Joe L. Evins Federal Building, which is used by the U.S. Department of Energy Oak Ridge Office. They plan to be in a new building there by Thanksgiving 2014. [Read more…]

‘Classical June’ at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church starts Sunday

Always seeking to further the art and appreciation of classical music, Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church Director of Music Wendel Werner has announced that during the month of June various classical pieces will be the featured music during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship services. Everyone is invited to attend. ORUUC is located at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge.

Featured on June 2 will be a performance of “The Flower Duet” from Léo Delibes’ opera Lakmé sung by Saffron Mills and Anne Scott. On June 19, featured pieces by Schubert and Mozart will be sung by Saffron Mills. Services on June 16 and 23 will feature classical pieces played by Charlotte Bowers and will include some four-hands music played by Charlotte and her mother. On June 30, the feature pieces will be by Bach, Schumann, and Copland sung by Marti Messer. [Read more…]

Free community meal at Unitarian Universalist Church today

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church has a free community meal this evening, a press release said.

It’s the Stone Soup Ministry meal, and it’s held the last Friday of every month in the Social Hall of the Unitarian Universalist Church. Food for the free monthly meal is provided by the ORUUC congregation with financial help from Oak Ridge community members. [Read more…]

Paintings, jazz featured at Sunday service at Unitarian Universalist church

A Sunday service at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church will feature paintings and jazz.

The paintings by regional artist Rickey A. Beene will be displayed in the church sanctuary. They are portraits of his neighbors in Petros in Morgan County.

Free community meal at Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church has a free community meal on Friday, and nurses from the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge have volunteered to give flu shots to those in need, a press release said.

Free coats and blankets will also be available on a first-come, first-serve basis due to a limited supply.

Stone Soup Ministry Community Meal

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church has a free community meal on Friday, and everyone is invited, a press release said.

It’s a Stone Soup Ministry free community meal. They are held the last Friday of each month in the church’s Social Hall. Food for the meal is provided by the ORUUC congregation and financial support from Oak Ridge community members.

The Stone Soup Ministry name is derived from the Stone Soup Fable, a medieval tale in which a hungry stranger came upon a small village.

Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Holiday Craft Show

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church will have a Holiday Craft Fair on Sunday.

It’s scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ORUUC Social Hall, a press release said.

“A longtime community favorite, the ORUUC Holiday Craft Fair has become a source of inspiration and a place of diversity and discovery in selecting those ‘only one of its kind’ gifts for those special people on one’s holiday gift list,” the release said.

The Craft Fair will feature the work of some of the region’s finest artists who work with glass, ceramic, wood, quilts, and other hand-sewn items, the release said. Photographs will be available for purchase.
