Bank robbery alert, traffic stop lead to arrest of suspect

An alert sent to local law enforcement combined with a traffic stop in Clinton led to the arrest of a suspect in a Powell bank robbery in October, federal officials said.

Christopher Michael Miller, 36, is accused of a bank robbery at Home Federal Bank at 105 East Emory Road in Powell on Tuesday afternoon, October 20.

He was arrested just a few hours later on North Charles G. Seivers Boulevard at Interstate 75 in Clinton.

A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Knoxville alleged Miller entered the Home Federal Bank at about 1:38 p.m. that Tuesday, approached a teller, and passed a handwritten note that read: “I Have 2 Guns! I need all the 50’s, 100’s out of your drawer! No FAKE Blue Bills. NOW!”

The teller complied with the demand for money and provided an undisclosed amount of cash to Miller, the complaint said. [Read more…]

Suspect in Powell bank robbery arrested in Clinton

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Clinton on Tuesday, just hours after a bank robbery was reported at Home Federal Bank at 105 East Emory Road in Powell at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Christopher Michael Miller was arrested later Tuesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the bank robbery but hasn’t yet specified the charges against Miller.

Authorities in Anderson County received an alert after the Tuesday afternoon robbery. The suspect reportedly turned onto Heiskell Road, which runs from Knox County into Anderson County, and officers and deputies began looking for the suspect vehicle. The Clinton Police Department made the traffic stop, and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department assisted. [Read more…]

FBI investigating bank robbery at Home Federal Bank in Powell

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a bank robbery reported at Home Federal Bank on East Emory Road in Powell on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities in Anderson County received an alert after the robbery, which was reported at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect reportedly turned onto Heiskell Road, which runs into Anderson County.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

Two plead guilty to money laundering…literally

Two men pleaded guilty this week to charges that they literally laundered money stolen in a Knox County bank robbery.

Danny Ray Idles, 36, of Clinton and Christopher Coward, 31, of Powell, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Anderson County Criminal Court to four counts each of money laundering and were sentenced to serve four 12-year jail sentences to run concurrently. [Read more…]
