Oak Ridge Philharmonia has free concert in March

The Oak Ridge Philharmonia will have a free concert in March, performed on two separate dates in Oak Ridge and Knoxville.

“We hope you can join us for a generous portion of fun and very enjoyable music,” a press release said.

The concerts will include:

  • Muzio Clementi, “Symphony No. 4”
  • Claude Debussy, “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun”
  • Heitor Villa-Lobos, “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4”

Here is the concert schedule:

  • Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike
  • Sunday, March 17, at 4 p.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 9919 Kingston Pike, Knoxville

“As always, the concert is provided with free admission, but we certainly appreciate donations that can be given at the concert or through our wonderful website,” the press release said. “We encourage you to visit our website and read about our orchestra: https://www.oakridgephilharmonia.org/.”

Secret City Festival includes free concerts, art show, other activities this weekend

The Secret City Festival features free concerts and other activities at Alvin K. Bissell Park this weekend. Organizers have posted an entertainment schedule for both days, which is printed below.

Organizers said parking is available at the west end of the park (enter via Badger Road), Oak Ridge High School, First Methodist Church, and various paid lots around town. Accessible parking is available at the Oak Ridge Public Library.

The TN Creates Juried Art Show begins at 10 a.m. daily in the Shep Lauter Room at the Oak Ridge Civic Center, and all other festival activities begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday, organizers said. Admission is free.

There are free water stations throughout the park and water and other drinks are available for purchase via vendors, organizers said. There are food vendors at the festival, and “we have plenty of cold beer and moonshine cocktails ready to go,” organizers said.

Other activities include a petting zoo, wildlife encounter, Home Depot area, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory Traveling Science Fair, according to an event map, which is included below.

Music directors have free concert Sunday at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist

Local church music directors will have a chance to step outside their responsibilities of coordinating music for Sunday worship and other programs to perform in the Third Annual Music Directors Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, pictured above.

Local church music directors will have a chance to step outside their responsibilities of coordinating music for Sunday worship and other programs to perform in the Third Annual Music Directors Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. The church is located at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge. There is no cost to attend.

Lining up to share their musical talent with the community will be ORUUC Music Director Wendel Werner; Andrew Duncan and Jeff Kile from First Methodist in Oak Ridge; Rachel Little from Erin Presbyterian in Knoxville; Sandy Wells, who recently led the Messiah Sing-Along at ORUUC; Alan Eleazer from Maryville Methodist; and Anna Thomas from First Presbyterian in Oak Ridge. Oak Ridge Community Orchestra

The Oak Ridge Community Orchestra has a free concert Saturday featuring the music of three British composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, and one 21st century Oak Ridge composer—Nancy England.

England founded the ORCO 20 years ago, and she is still with the orchestra today, playing cello. The English composers featured at Saturday’s concert are Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst, and Edward Elgar, a press release said.

The concert starts at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, at the corner of the Oak Ridge Turnpike and Lafayette Drive. “Admission is free, but modest donations at the door to support the orchestra’s routine operating expenses will be appreciated,” the release said.
