Thackerson, record-setting Clinton QB, commits to Carson-Newman

Clinton High School quarterback Tyler Thackerson has announced that he has committed to play college football at Carson-Newman. Thackerson made the decision last week, but he made it public on Tuesday.

A three-year starter at Clinton, Thackerson holds virtually every Dragon passing record, and in his career, he threw for more than 9,500 yards and accounted for a total of 104 passing and rushing touchdowns.

This season, Thackerson threw for more than 3,900 yards and 32 touchdowns, while also scoring 13 times via the ground game.

CHS hosting football jamboree Aug. 14

The Clinton High School football team will host the Tennessee Orthopedic Clinic Jamboree on Friday, August 14, at Dragon Stadium in downtown Clinton.

It starts at 6 p.m. with Grace Christian squaring off against Claiborne. That will be followed by a skills competition, and then the Dragons will face Union County in the nightcap.

WYSH Radio’s Fox and Farley Friday Night Football returns Friday, August 21, at 7 p.m. when the Orange and Black head to Oak Ridge for a season-opening showdown with the Wildcats.

CHS offensive coordinator to take over Powell football program

Clinton High School football offensive coordinator Rodney Ellison has been named the new coach at Powell High School in Knoxville.

He previously was head coach at Wartburg for one season in 2011 before coming to Clinton, where he helped revitalize the Dragon program with an up-tempo, spread-style offense.
