Short to speak at Democratic Women’s Club tonight; officers to be elected

Brenda Freeman Short, East Tennessee vice president of the Tennessee Federation of Democratic Women, will be the guest speaker at the annual business meeting of the Anderson County Democratic Women’s Club. The club meets at 6 p.m. Monday, November 17, at the Oak Ridge Power Squadron at 343 Emory Valley Road in Oak Ridge.

The club will hold election of officers for 2015. A spaghetti dinner with a choice of meat or vegetarian sauce will be served, and the cost is $5 per person. For reservations, e-mail Ann Mostoller at amostoller@msw-law.com or call Mary Matheny at (865) 483-8937. [Read more…]

Venable brings humor to Aug. 25 meeting of Democratic Women’s Club

Sam Venable, the Knoxville News Sentinel humor columnist, will bring his humor to the August 25 meeting of the Anderson County Democratic Women’s Club.

Venable’s presentation is titled “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up—Truisms From Real Life.”

The club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, August 25, in the Clinton Community Center Great Room at 101 South Hicks Street in Clinton. Vernon’s Burnins will cater the event, serving the award-winning barbecue ribs dinner, at a cost of $18 per person. Democrats host picnic at Gibbs Ferry Park on Saturday

The Anderson County Democratic Party and Democratic Women’s Club will host an annual picnic from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Gibbs Ferry Park.

All who are interested are invited to bring family an friends, join the festivities, and meet Democratic candidates seeking office in upcoming elections, a press release said. Hot dogs with condiments and cold drinks will be provided.

“Please bring a side dish, chips, or dessert to share,” the release said.

Gibbs Ferry Park is on Highway 61 between Oak Ridge and Clinton, along the river. The park has a covered pavilion with picnic tables, a boat ramp, and fishing pier.
