ORNL FCU summer concerts return this summer

The Summer Sessions concert series produced by ORNL Federal Credit Union will return this summer after being canceled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The free concert series will kick off in July and continue through October, a press release said. It will feature bluegrass and Americana bands from throughout the region.

The first show will be held on Saturday, July 17, and it will feature Sierra Hull and Justin Moses. Hull, a native of Byrdstown, Tennessee, is an accomplished singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist who made her Opry debut at the age of 10, the press release said. Hull is married to and currently tours with Moses, a former member of Ricky Skaggs’ band, Kentucky Thunder. Opening for Hull and Moses will be The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, a bluegrass band formed in the Great Smoky Mountains.

ORNL Federal Credit Union to host free bluegrass/Americana concerts

ORNL Federal Credit Union will continue its free concert series in Oak Ridge this summer. The concerts will feature bluegrass and American bands from throughout the region, a press release said. The musicians will include Jim Lauderdale and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, among others.

The series kicks off in June and will continue through September, a press release said. All concerts will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Alvin K. Bissell Park in Oak Ridge.

The first show will be held on Saturday, June 15, and it will feature legendary songwriter Jim Lauderdale and his band, along with East Tennessee native Steve Gulley and his band, New Pinnacle, the press release said.

“The community is invited to bring their lawn chairs and their friends and family for an evening of free Americana roots music,” the press release said. Local food truck vendors and Oak Ridge’s own Crafter’s Brew will be on site, the release said.

Final concert of Jazz on the Hill series is Saturday

The Green McAdoo Cultural Organization will be hosting its final concert of the Jazz on the Hill series on Saturday, October 1. The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra will perform.

The event is open to the public. You are can bring your families, blankets, lawn chairs, etc.

Performance times will be 6:30-9:30 p.m., a press release said. It’s a free event, but vendors will be available for food and drink purchases. The event will be held outside of the Green McAdoo Cultural Center at 101 School Street in Clinton. [Read more…]

The concert starts at 3:30 p.m. at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center.
