Free flu shots, warm coats at free Stone Soup community meal on Friday

Stay warm and healthy with a steamy bowl of homemade soup and a free flu shot at a community meal at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday.

The meal is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. in the church’s Social Hall. It’s a great opportunity to spend time to relax and enjoy time with others from throughout the community, a press release said.

The Stone Soup team will prepare and serve a homemade meal of black eyed pea soup, sandwiches, pumpkin pie, and milk.

Nurses from the Free Medical Clinic are volunteering their time to give flu shots. Nicknamed the “flu crew,” the nurses plan to be ready to start at 4:30 p.m. and plan to finish at 5:30 p.m. The vaccine is being provided by the clinic. [Read more…]

Free community meal at ORUUC this evening

Everyone is welcome to come to a free community meal at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church this evening, a press release said.

Tonight’s menu includes Southwestern bean salad, tortilla chips, chocolate chip granola bars, and icy cold watermelon. Dine-in or take-out will be available from 5 to 6 p.m.

ORUUC is located at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike (traffic light number 11) in Oak Ridge. [Read more…]

Free community meal at ORUUC this evening

Homemade chicken and rice salad, granola bars, and watermelon will be served for the Stone Soup Ministry meal this evening. Anyone in the community is invited to this free meal from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Stone Soup Ministry meal is held the last Friday of every month, at the same time, in the Social Hall of the church. Food is provided by the ORUUC congregation along with financial support from several members of the community. [Read more…]

Free community meal at Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church has a free community meal on Friday, and nurses from the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge have volunteered to give flu shots to those in need, a press release said.

Free coats and blankets will also be available on a first-come, first-serve basis due to a limited supply.

The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church has a free community meal on Friday, and everyone is invited, a press release said.

It’s a Stone Soup Ministry free community meal. They are held the last Friday of each month in the church’s Social Hall. Food for the meal is provided by the ORUUC congregation and financial support from Oak Ridge community members.

The Stone Soup Ministry name is derived from the Stone Soup Fable, a medieval tale in which a hungry stranger came upon a small village.
