Children’s Museum summer camps offer science, art, adventures

Imagination Station Summer Camp kicks off at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge Monday, June 8, inviting children to a wizard school, Jedi training, CSI adventures, painting and photography classes, cooking, and garden fun. Campers will have opportunities to learn about trains with model railroaders, to create with clay, to build with Minecraft Legos, and to explore cultures around the world.

The summer camps, through July 31, offer activities for children ages 3-5 in preschool classes and for children entering grades 1 through 7. Clay camps with professional clay artist Sherrie Carris will be offered throughout the summer for children ranging in age from 4-13.

Children’s Museum offers Fall Break classes

Children's Museum of Oak Ridge

The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge will offer special arts camps next week during fall break for Oak Ridge Schools, from Monday through Friday, October 13-17. They are:

  • Eclectic Art. Children will experience a variety of artistic media, including painting, drawing, collage, introductory printmaking, and sculpting. The class, for fourth through seventh graders, will be from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost is $115 for members and $125 for non-members, with a $10 materials fee.
  • Creepy Clay. Children will hand build their own creations, as well as bones and eyeballs to create a bracelet or chimes, form a  pumpkin to decorate, and paint a haunted Halloween tile with glaze. The class, for ages 7-14, is from 1-4 p.m. The fee is $125 for members and $135 for non-members, and it includes materials and firing. The class limit is 12.
