The annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, December 1, in Alvin K. Bissell Park.

The tree lighting ceremony, sponsored by the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department, is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. December 1.

The tree, a Norway spruce that was presented to the city by the Woman’s Club, has become part of a growing community tradition, a press release said.

The City of Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department will have its annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 2, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Pavilion in A.K. Bissell Park. The tree, a Norway Spruce, was presented by the Oak Ridge Woman’s Club to the city and has become part of a growing community tradition, a press release said.

The event will kick off at the outdoor A.K. Bissell Park Pavilion with seasonal music and the Park Board Awards ceremony. There will also be light refreshments provided by Y-12 Federal Credit Union and the Park Board, the press release said.

Following the program, participants will proceed to the Secret City Commemorative Walk on the east side of the Oak Ridge Public Library parking area for a brief ceremony ending with the tree lighting.

Christmas Tree Lighting is Friday in Oak Ridge

The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department has updated plans for the annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting scheduled for Friday, December 6. The event will now begin at 6 p.m. in Alvin K. Bissell Park. That is 30 minutes earlier than previously announced.

The order of events has also been updated so that the tree lighting kicks off the event in the Secret City Commemorative Walk area on the east side of the Oak Ridge Public Library parking lot. At the conclusion of the tree lighting, participants will proceed to the outdoor pavilion stage located behind the Oak Ridge Civic Center for holiday music and refreshments. 

The entire program will take place outside in the park (weather permitting). Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately. In the event of rain, the music program will take place in the Civic Center’s Shep Lauter Room (gymnasium), a press release said.

The Oak Ridge Woman’s Club and the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor the annual Christmas tree lighting and reception on Friday, December 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Participants should gather at the Secret City Commemorative Walk on the east side of the Oak Ridge Library parking lot for a brief ceremony, a press release said.

Following the tree lighting, a reception will be held in the Civic Center gymnasium. Participants will enjoy seasonal music and refreshments provided by the Oak Ridge Woman’s Club Civic Affairs Committee, the press release said.

Participants should gather at the Secret City Commemorative Walk on the east side of the Oak Ridge Public Library parking lot for a brief ceremony, a press release said. A reception with seasonal music and entertainment will be held in the Oak Ridge Civic Center gymnasium immediately following the tree lighting. Light refreshments will be served.

Clinton Christmas tree lighting, parade coming up soon

The City of Clinton’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be held on Friday, November 28—the day after Thanksgiving—at Hoskins Lane Park off of Market Street in downtown Clinton. The celebration will begin at 4:30 p.m. with face painting for children, hot chocolate, and cookies.

Music will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by remarks from Mayor Scott Burton and City Manager Roger Houck, and then the lighting of the city’s traditional Christmas tree.

Clinton’s annual Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 6 p.m. in downtown Clinton. The grand marshals will be recently retired City Council members Charlie Lyons and Jerry Shattuck.

Things to do in Oak Ridge this weekend

Activities in Oak Ridge this weekend include a free movie, Christmas tree lighting, and Children’s Museum gala tonight and the annual Christmas parade tomorrow.

There is also a CONTACT Helpline pancake breakfast, rides with Santa on the Secret City Excursion Train, and the Roane State Community College holiday concert in Harriman.
