Discover the variety of internships and research participation programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory by participating in the Laboratory Internship Virtual Event, or LIVE, career fair on Wednesday, February 20, from noon to 3 p.m.

During the LIVE virtual career fair, participants will connect with ORNL recruiters and staff, talk to ORNL’s staff scientists about their research and how they are solving some of the world’s most compelling challenges, and learn more about the different directorates that make up ORNL, the largest U.S. Department of Energy open science laboratory, a press release said.

Discover ORNL research opportunities at Virtual Career Fair

Undergraduates, graduate students, and recent college graduates may find the research opportunity that meets their career goals during the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Science Education and Workforce Development Virtual Career Fair next week.

The Virtual Career Fair will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, February 22. It will be hosted by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a press release said.

“The virtual career fair is a great opportunity for students to investigate research opportunities available at ORNL,” said Bill Cox, ORISE group manager. “Participants will have the same ability to ask questions as if they were at a career fair in person.” [Read more…]

Answer Financial to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank

Answer Financial Inc., a local insurance agency, hopes to help Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee by making a donation to the food bank for every resume it receives during a career fair in West Knoxville today.

The company, one of the largest auto and home insurance agencies in the United States, is planning to hire 75 sales associates in the Knoxville area by the end of the year.

Residents and job seekers with sales or customer service experience can take part in the fair at the Holiday Inn on Cedar Bluff from noon to 7 p.m. today. The career fair will include guests Josh and Will of Sports Animal radio.

“We’re trying to get the word out on the large number of open positions and great career opportunities we have at Answer Financial, while at the same time providing help to a nonprofit organization that does great work in the community,” said Lance Dawson, the company’s human resources director.

He said Answer Financial, which has offices in Oak Ridge, is hiring for November, December, and January training classes. The goal is to hire 75 new associates before year-end and more than 100 in 2013 in the Knoxville area alone. Answer Financial represents more than 20 insurance companies, including The Hartford, Safeco, Progressive, and Esurance.

Oak Ridge Youth Board seeks vendors for teen job fair

The City Youth Advisory Board is planning a Summer Jobs and Career Fair for Teens on Wednesday, April 25, from 2-4 p.m. in the Oak Ridge High School Café. This event will introduce students to possible summer job opportunities, future careers, and to potential colleges, as well as allow vendors to meet potential employees.

The YAB has donated a Compaq laptop, a Nook Color eReader, and two $50 gas gift cards as door prizes to encourage students to attend. Vendors are also giving away additional door prizes.

There will be numerous vendors at the fair including the City of Oak Ridge, Razzleberry’s, and King College. If you wish to be a vendor, contact Matt Reedy, Recreation and Parks Program Supervisor at [email protected] or visit the city’s website at www.orrecparks.org.
