Fred Palmer Jeffers Sr.

Fred Palmer Jeffers Sr., passed away on April 6. A giant of a man has fallen, but trusting Jesus as his Savior, his spirit lives on at home with God.

He was born in Oneida, to Oscar and Sadie Goad Jeffers on Aug. 1, 1927.

Preceding him in death were his parents Oscar and Sadie Goad Jeffers; his brothers, Olin, B.R., Ervin, and Hurse; and his sisters, Emma and Ruth.

After serving in the U.S. Navy at the end of the war, he came to work at U.S. Department of Energy, Y-12, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge until his retirement. While at ORNL, he received an R&D award for his work in Ceramics Lab. [Read more…]

Dorothy “Dot” Moore Brooks

Dorothy (Dot) Moore Brooks, a long-time resident of Oak Ridge passed away April 5 at NHC Healthcare Center following complications from a fall at her home.

Born in Memphis on Nov. 12, 1920, Dot was the daughter of William P. and Maud Etner (Ware) Moore. Following the death of her parents, she was raised by her maternal grandparents, William Edgar and Sarah Elizabeth (Yearwood) Ware.

In 1936, she married Henry Vester Ralph, son of Walter G. and Lula J. (Dalton) Ralph of Covington, Tenn. In 1945, Dot and Vester moved to Oak Ridge with their two young daughters. Dot worked at Taylor’s, Loveman’s, and Miller’s department stores in Oak Ridge as an office manager for many years. [Read more…]

E. Malcolm Massey

E. Malcolm Massey, 85, of Knoxville and formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away on April 5 at Parkwest Medical Center.

He was born to parents Charles and Lindsey Apple Massey on April 2, 1928, in Cookeville.

Malcolm worked for Technicon as a computer field technician. He was a lifelong member of the Nazarene faith, a member of First Church of The Nazarene in Oak Ridge, where he was a charter member.

Among his hobbies and interests, he was an avid golfer, enjoyed ceramics, painting, tinkering with old cars and bicycles, and a collector of replica motor vehicles. [Read more…]

Mildred Marie Silvey, age 85, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mrs. Silvey was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Anderson County. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

Mildred was a member of the Church Of God, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

For several years before her retirement, she was employed at Pic-Air in Oak Ridge, and she previously worked at Burlington Mills in Harriman. [Read more…]

James Edwin Bullock

James Edwin Bullock, age 75, of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, April 3, at Methodist Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Washington, Ga., the son of John W. and Lois Denard Bullock, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Bullock was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955 to 1959. He worked for many years with Southern Railroad and also with Stanley Jones Construction Co. in Liberty, Ky., where he was a sheet metal mechanic.

He was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church. He spent his pastime on the citizens band radio and was known by his handle, “Shamrock.” He also enjoyed participation in flight simulations. [Read more…]

Margaret L. Jones age 92, of Clinton, passed away on Monday, April 1, at the Golden Living Center-Windwood in Clinton.

Margaret’s family had a graveside service for her Wednesday, April 3, at the Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Clinton with Rev. Brian Thomas officiating.

Jones Mortuary in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.

Larry Kent Miracle

Larry Kent Miracle, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, March 27, at his daughter’s home in Lowell, Ind.

Born in Pineville, Ky., on March 11, 1941, to Claude and Meldren Miracle, Larry was a 1960 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, where he met Marian, his wife of 42 years.

He was employed at Ford Motor Co. for more than 30 years and is a former resident of Lowell, Ind. After retiring, Larry and Marian traveled throughout the United States in their motor home before returning to Oak Ridge. Larry enjoyed camping and four-wheeling with his friends and cousins. Reva Beckler Warren, age 81, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, March 30, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mrs. Warren was born Sept. 9, 1931, in Moorseburg, Tenn.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter lovingly referred to her as “Memaw” and “Re Re.” She was at her happiest when she was surrounded by her family and was determined to make the best of life. She delighted in “making memories” for all of her grandchildren. Her passion for children and family guided her all of her days, and she will be deeply missed by all. [Read more…]

Dustin Travis West, age 42, of Knoxville and formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Easter Sunday, March 31, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 9, 1970 in Louisville, Ky.

Dustin was employed with Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Janitorial Department. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Marcella Wikle, age 84, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 28, at the Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson City.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Jason and Lornie McMahan; her husband, Calvin Wikle; son, Paul Wikle; and three brothers and two sisters.

Marcella is survived by her sons, Mark Wikle and wife Vicky of Dandridge, Johnny Wikle of Lakeland, Fla., and Ollen Wikle and wife Michelle of Clinton; her daughters, Doris Haggard of Franklin, N.C., Janie Powers of Rockwood, Karen and husband Gary Harness of Clinton, Sandy Cox of Powell, and Debra McGinnif of Knoxville; brother Robert McMahan and wife Linda of Franklin, N.C.; and 25 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
