Allie T. Stinson
Allie T. Stinson, age 104, of Oak Ridge passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at NHC Healthcare of Oak Ridge.
Allie was born April 29, 1910, in Cullman, Ala., and moved to Oak Ridge in 1943. She was a member of New York Avenue Church of Christ. Allie enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Lee Stinson and daughter Carolyn Dean Underwood. [Read more…]
Orville B. Ely
Orville B. Ely, age 89, passed away Saturday, May 17, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. A resident of Oak Ridge since 1968, Orville had lived at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home in Knoxville since 2012.
He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Middlesboro, Ky., where he lived until entering the Army during World War II. He proudly served as an Army combat veteran of Anzio and Southern France, where he was severely wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart along with other commendations.
Orville was a devoted member of Royce Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, where he enjoyed the fellowship of many friends.
Prior to his retirement, Orville was employed by Oak Ridge Tool and Engineering.
In 1987, Orville was united in marriage to Ruby Carnes Locke, who survives him and also resides at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home. [Read more…]
Eli Christian Noey
Our beloved, Eli Christian Noey, age 26, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, in Chattanooga. The son of Karen Christian Noey and James Michael Noey, he was born on January 2, 1988, in Knoxville. Eli grew up in Oak Ridge, graduating from Oak Ridge High School in 2006. Eli was employed by Cellular Sales – Verizon Wireless Retailer in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Eli enjoyed an active social life and was an avid baseball player, enthusiastically supporting the Braves and the Vols. Always outdoors, Eli enjoyed hiking, rock climbing, spending time on the lake, and most of all, being with his friends. Eli was full of life, and his happy-go-lucky personality brought a smile to those around him. Eli loves his family, his friends, but most of all, Eli loved life.
A loving friend, son, and brother, Eli was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doris and Lynn Noey. Eli is survived by his mother, Karen Noey; father, James Noey; sister, Emily Noey; grandparents, Beth and Wade Christian; aunts and uncles, Carolyn Noey, Christopher Noey (Ghiora Aharoni), John Noey Jr. (Linda), Jerry and Gail Christian; his cousins, Liz Noey, Sarah Narramore (Colt), and Amanda Hudson (Erik); and many special friends and family. Effie Carter Goodall
Effie Carter Goodall, age 101, of Oak Ridge, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 20.
Effie was born in Pennington Gap, Va., on October 21, 1912, and moved to Oak Ridge in 1944. She had seven siblings.
Effie was a longtime member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to the many people who knew and loved her.

Amos Joshua Van Hall
Amos Joshua Van Hall, age 38, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, May 12, in Ten Mile, Tenn.
He was born June 21, 1975, in Saratoga Springs, New York. Amos graduated from the New York Military Academy in Cornwall, N.Y. He served with the U.S. Army from 1994-2003 as a military police officer. Prior to moving to Tennessee to work at B&W Y-12, he worked as a police officer in Gainesville, Fla. He had worked in security at Y-12 for the past 10 years. He and his wife and children also owned and operated a Crossfit Gym.

George W. Oliphant
George Oliphant, age 91, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Monday morning, May 12.
He was born in Riceville, Tenn., to Leona and J.R. Oliphant and was the second of four children.
He graduated from McMinn County High School, in Athens, Tenn., Class of 1941. George attended Tennessee Wesleyan Jr. College, where he played basketball and was class president. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943, where he became an airplane pilot.
After the war’s end, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, earning his degree in electrical engineering in 1948. He was also senior class president and a Torchbearer. [Read more…]
Laura Harmon, age 71, of Oak Ridge, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 11, at Methodist Medical Center.
Laura was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, making baby dolls, and especially making dresses for her new baby girls being born into the family. Laura was the matriarch of her family. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lilly Lester; son, Ernest Eugene Coyer Jr.; three brothers; and three sisters. [Read more…]
Shirley K. Miller, age 79, a resident of Devonia, Tenn., passed away, Tuesday, May 13, at the Life Care Center in Morgan County.
Mrs. Miller was born April 5, 1935, in Lexington, Missouri. She and her husband moved to Devonia, in 1974
Shirley worked as a secretary for over 20 years for the New York Life Insurance Company in Kansas City, Missouri, and Miami, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin F. and Dorothy Due McGowan; by her husband, Bert Norris Miller; and by a sister, Sandra Vogt. [Read more…]
Joan Frances Roberts, age 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Sunday, May 11, at her home.
Mrs. Roberts was born on May 28, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan and she has lived in Oliver Springs since 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of the Corbin Hill Baptist Church in Coalfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Bertoli and Lenora Hurt Bertoli; by two sons, Robert Turner and Carl Eugene Roberts; one daughter, Donna Sue Roberts; by grandsons, Jimmy Hunt, David Midkiff, and Jordan Phillips; and by brothers, Robert Lee Bertoli and David Bertoli. [Read more…]
Glen Edward Roysden
Glen Edward Roysden, age 56, a resident of Clinton, passed away Saturday, May 10, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Roysden was born November 17, 1957, in Oliver Springs. He and his family moved from New River to Oliver Springs in 1968.
Glen owned and operated Glen Roysden Masonary. He was of the Baptist Faith, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, but most importantly having holiday dinners with his family.
