Farrah Adin Hicks, newborn daughter of William Wesley Scott and Courtney Leigh Farrar Hicks of Oak Ridge, was born and departed on December 26.

Survivors also include great-grandparents, Wayne and Margaret Farrar, of Oak Ridge and Harvey Gregory Jr., of Corbin, Ky.; grandparents, Bill and Kaye Farrar, of Oak Ridge, and Patty Hicks, of Newcomb; aunts and uncles, Brian and Kristin Farrar, of Oak Ridge; Kayvon and Brandy Meehan, of Farragut; and cousins, Shelby, Brayden, Grace, Praise, Bella, and Asa. Shirley Rutherford Summers, born March 3, 1946, went to be with Jesus for Christmas on Monday, Dec. 24.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Ethel Rutherford, and siblings, Don and Frank Rutherford and Jean Bolton.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Charles Summers; children, Nathanael Summers and his wife Melissa, and Tabitha Cannon and her husband John; grandchildren, Christopher, Breanna, Jeremiah, Tessa, and Emily (Joel); great-grandchildren, Elijah and Grace; siblings, Betty Burke, Libby Russo, Jerry Rutherford, Mary Wallace, and Doris Wooten; and several nieces and nephews.

Faye Jean Hembree, age 79, a resident of Coalfield, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 24, at the home of her niece, Dawn Riley.

Ms. Hembree was born Nov. 19, 1933, in Coalfield. She lived in the Wheat Community of Roane County for nine years.

Faye was a faithful Christian lady who put God first in her life. She was a member of Big Mountain Baptist Church, Coalfield Senior Citizens, and the Coalfield Genealogy Society. [Read more…]

Ralph Byron Farrar

Ralph Byron Farrar, 88 of Oak Ridge, passed away Dec. 24.

He retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1990 after 37 years as an analytical chemist at the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Oak Ridge and the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, Ky.

Ralph was a graduate of Memphis State University with a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University. When on assignment to Paducah, he met Roberta Tucker at the Clements Street Church of Christ. They were married there on Dec. 28, 1956.

Betty Jo French Bray, 70, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, at home while surrounded by her family.

Betty was born June 2, 1942, in Knoxville. She was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs.

Before her sickness, she was employed in the Catalog Department at JCPenney  in Oak Ridge, and she worked with her family, as a clerk, at French’s Market in Oliver Springs.

James Paul Sharp

James Paul Sharp, age 66, of Clinton, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, at his residence.

James loved his family, and his grandchildren were his life. He enjoyed the simple things that God created, and whittling with wood. James grew up in the Gooseneck area and was proud to say he was from there.

He left a testimony of finding the Lord at a young age, and he was ready to meet the Lord.

William Arthur Bell Jr.

William Arthur Bell Jr., age 96, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, at Blount Memorial Medical Center in Maryville.

He was born Nov. 24, 1916 in Powell Station, the son of Nola (Hibbs) and William Arthur Bell Sr.

We were blessed to be at the side of our father and hero, holding his hand, at the end. His very labored breathing stopped, his eyes opened very wide staring straight up towards heaven, and his heart stopped. He was at peace and his suffering gone. He had fought the good fight, and it was done.

Clarence Eugene Kelley

Clarence “Gene” Kelley, age 65, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center in Andersonville.

Gene was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, and playing with his grandchildren. His home and heart were open to all children, especially his own. It was normal for Gene’s home to be full with his five kids and all of their friends.

Gene was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1966–1971. He was an auto mechanic for Goodyear and also worked for Pinkerton Security as a security guard deputy sheriff.
