What’s it to you…if you are not here to adopt us, then move along and make room for our other audience…there is a standing-room-only line. My sibling is a little shy so is hiding behind me, playing peekaboo with you. We need a home and expect you to scoop us right up and love us real good. We need some playmates of our own. So we pick you and you and you!

Why pick just one when you can have two???

The Oak Ridge Animal Shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It’s located at 395 Belgrade Road in east Oak Ridge. The phone number is (865) 425-3423.

Sophia—I am of course, Sophia Loren’s namesake because I am sooo beautiful! I’m six years old, well-mannered on a leash, and would make a fantastic family pet!

If you will remember, no matter how old Sophia is, she is a beautiful as ever. She is so calm and just wants to be loved. Will you make her your new best friend?

SARG celebrated the first run of its newly acquired van with supporters in May as it was filled with two dogs, six adult cats, and five kittens headed from the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter to their new forever homes in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The van was purchased using the last three years of proceeds from the Paw for Life Gala fundraiser that SARG has sponsored. SARG Vice President and Gala Chairwoman Sara Moore, and photographer of this event, was jubilant; “Raising the funds to buy this van and save all the lives of our unwanted dogs/cats in our community is the best feeling in the world. We thank all that have always supported SARG to share in this joyous occasion. We look forward to continuing our trips to communities who have homes for all our overflow of dogs and cats.”

If you would like to assist SARG in this endeavor or any others relating to their mission, contact Moore at poohbear214@comcast.net or Shirley Auble at shirsarg@comcast.net, or visit Shelter Animal Rescue Group on Facebook or visit the website at www.shelteranimalsrescue.org.

I am a real lover too. I am not accustomed to steel walls, so I certainly expect a castle fit for a princess soon. Can you accommodate that request…this week is not early enough for me! Tuesday when they open would be perfect!

Here’s to my forever family, with all the royal smooches I can muster. =^..^= [Read more…]

I’m Angie, and my situation is sad. I’m skinny, and was covered in ticks when I came in as an owner surrender. I have no clue why I am here.

The volunteers could sing: “Oh, Angie, don’t you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet. I hate that sadness in your eyes.”

I’m only two years old, a black and tan coonhound mix that might be a better partner than a hunting dog. The season is over, so I probably got dumped.

I’m a little shy and confused because no one taught me how to walk on a leash, but I am making huge strides daily! I would be the most gratitude-filled best friend. [Read more…]

Shizzy’s Doggy Haven in partnership with the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter are sponsoring a pet drive and adoption fair on Saturday. All donations from the event will go directly to the animal shelter.

Spring has sprung and that means the shelter is full of puppies, kittens, adult dogs, and cats that are looking for their new home. Drop by for some puppy love and a chance to adopt your new best friend! We will also have lots of silent auction items available including a grill donated by Home Depot.

We have amazing door prizes available from local sponsors and all you need to do to enter is bring an item the shelter desperately needs to continue to run efficiently. The shelter’s needs are blankets, towels, dog beds, crates and cages, cat carriers, dish soap, (he) laundry soap, cleaning supplies, dog food (wet and dry), puppy and kitten food, cat litter, newspapers, toys, stuffed animals, collars, leashes, and most of all YOU! I am Sam, a 12-year-old Border Collie Mix. I can certainly show you the calmer side of life. How about a peaceful walk in the neighborhood with me? I would love nothing more than to retire with dignity, with an owner that is as faithful to me as I would be to you.

I should not be here, but such is life. I just want a lap to lay my head on. Won’t you consider being my best and final owner?

Icky is the name I grew up with, but it is sooo wrong! I need someone to love me and look at me differently—and please change my name! How would you like to grow up with a name like that? Ricky, Nicky, or even Licky would be better for me!

I am available now. I’m a six-year-old Chihuahua mix with tons of love to give you! Just ask the people who are so kind to walk me! I don’t belong here, please?

Look at this handsome gentleman! He’s calm, proud and handsome. Hello there! I’m Butch, Milo’s partner in a non-crime! I’m about two years old, and I am a good boy, good on a leash, and I like everyone! Don’t you like my pose? I really want to meet you! I like to bark at the other dogs when they walk by, but that’s just because I’m bored, ya know. I’m pretty danged harmless and just need a buddy. Won’t you be mine?

Now why would they name me Honey Bun? Could it be ’cause I look like one and am sweet as one? The wonderful shelter folks gave me a great bath, but I need a Mommy or Daddy who will stroke my soft coat and let me give them some of my sweet love! I’m a Bearded Collie, and I just got here on May 14, so you better hurry!
