Dennis Denver Davis, 66, of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, March 7, at his home at 145 Patricia Lane in Oliver Springs following a long battle with cancer.

Dennis was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Oliver Springs. He was the son of Charles and Louise Davis, now both deceased.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Ann Davis; his daughter, Shellia Ann Lane and husband Floyd Lee Lane of Oliver Springs; by a son, Steven Davis of Oliver Springs; and three grandchildren, James Floyd Lane and Peggy Anne Lane, both of Oliver Springs, and Margaret Denice Ally Davis of Kingston.

David L. Edwards, age 48, of Clinton, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 2, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

He loved to cook and enjoyed the outdoors. David was very outgoing and would help anyone who was in need.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul Leander and Elsworth Mae Ellis, and David and Jennie B. Edwards.

Elnora Dorothy McGhee

Elnora Dorothy McGhee, age 83, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 7, at the Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. McGhee was born April 5, 1929, on Clinch Mountain in Grainger County, Tenn. Following her marriage, at the age of 17, she moved to Oak Ridge. She later moved to Oliver Springs, where she has continued to live.

She was a former member of the Community Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge since the late 1980s, and most recently, she had attended New Fairview Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. Before her illness, she enjoyed attending to the children in the nurseries at both Community and Calvary Baptist.

She retired from the Y-12 Federal Plant in Oak Ridge in 1992 following 15 years of employment. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and she entertained herself with Word Search.

Margaret “Peggy” Power Larkin

Margaret (Peggy) Power Larkin, age 89, died peacefully at the Summit Assisted Living in Lynchburg, Va., on Thursday, March 7.

She was the wife of the late William Joseph Larkin.

Born Jan. 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Hannah Cullen Power of Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland. She was educated by the Sisters of Charity at the Star of the Sea Convent in Tramore.

In 1946, Mrs. Larkin emigrated from Ireland to New York City, where she met William Joseph Larkin, whom she married on Jan. 29, 1949. They moved to Oak Ridge, where Mr. Larkin was appointed assistant director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Engineering Practice School at Union Carbide. She became a U.S. citizen in 1952.

Frances Beatrice Lee

Frances Beatrice Lee, 95, of Oak Ridge passed away Wednesday, March 6, at Emeritus of Oak Ridge.

She was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Frank and Myrtle Crippen Vandergrif.

She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and a retired seamstress from Levi Strauss. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

She married her husband Howard F. Lee on March 11, 1946, in Bacon County, Ga. They were married 60 years at the time of his death on Dec. 30, 2006.

Barbara Jean Keever

Barbara Jean Keever, 76, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, March 7, at Tennova West Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Spring City, Tenn., the daughter of William and Nellie Vittitoe Neal. Mrs. Keever was a long-time member of Royce Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bird watching.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Ray Clifton Keever on May 26, 2010.

Helen Kopp Schwenn, 92, died on Feb. 18 in Oak Ridge.

Helen was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Monroe, Wis., and spent her formative years in the Swiss community of New Glarus, Wis., where her father was a cheese maker.

She met her husband of 52 years, Marvin F. Schwenn, in Madison, Wis.

After a short time in New York City, where Marvin joined Union Carbide Corp. and the Manhattan Project at Columbia University, they relocated to Oak Ridge in August of 1944.

Patricia Faye “Pat” Morgan

Patricia Faye “Pat” Morgan, age 69, a resident of Harriman, passed away Monday, March 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mrs. Morgan was born March 16, 1943, in Anderson County. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

Pat was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Dyllis Baptist Church.

She retired in 1999, following 20 years of employment at the Y-12 Federal Plant in Oak Ridge. She was a member of the Ritzy Thimble Quilters Guild in Oak Ridge. The local Quilters Guild often made quilts for the Oak Ridge Hospitality House, and this was an activity that she loved. [Read more…]

Harold Russell Standefer

Harold Russell Standefer, age 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, at his home.

He was born June 27, 1933, in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of Clarence Raymond Standefer and Berdie Mae Dalton Standefer.

Mr. Standefer retired from Lockheed Martin, where he was an architectural engineer.

He was a longtime member of Highland View Church of Christ and was always active in church activities. He enjoyed his church family, playing golf and stamp collecting, and he was an avid reader and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to the Methodist Medical Center Cardiac Rehab Center. [Read more…]

Ronald David Braden, age 71, a resident of the Frost Bottom Community in Anderson County, passed away Sunday, March 3, at his home.

Mr. Braden was born Nov. 22, 1941, in Anderson County. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Before his retirement, David was a self-employed master mechanic, and he owned and operated Braden’s Automotive Repair. His hobbies included fishing and going to flea markets.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While serving, he received several medals, badges, citations, and ribbons. [Read more…]
