Robert Burton Provine Jr.

Robert B. Provine, a lifetime resident of Oak Ridge, passed away on Thursday, December 4, from complications of dementia.

Robert was born on November 13, 1945, the second of five children of Robert and Anita Provine, who proceeded him in death.

He is survived by brothers John and David; sisters Susie James (Jack) and Jennifer; nephews Michael, Joey, and Judson; and nieces Lisa, Bailey, and Hilary. Robert was also predeceased by his niece Heather.

Robert’s family was among the original settlers of Oak Ridge, his father having worked during World War II at the Manhattan Project.  [Read more…]

Margaret Lucille Holloway, 92, of Oak Ridge, died December 5, 2014.

Margaret was born in Spring City, Tennessee, on June 9, 1922, to Henry Clay Smith and Melody Hill Smith.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of Oak Ridge Woman’s Club, a Camp Fire Leader, and a community volunteer.

Margaret came to Oak Ridge in 1944/1945 to work for Tennessee Eastman Corporation and retired to become a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed everything in nature and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joy was her granddaughter. [Read more…]

She was born May 10, 1950, in Oak Ridge, the daughter of James Lawrence and Doris Auline Ward Householder.

Mrs. Jerrell graduated in 1969 from Oak Ridge High School.

He was an avid photographer, lover of classical music, and enthusiastic football fan. He was employed in the banking industry and served in World War II as an Army Air Force pilot.

Virginia Glynne Hagaman Cousins died on Tuesday, November 25.

Virginia was born on September 11, 1922, to the late Glynn and Carl Hagaman in Harlan, Kentucky. She attended Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky.

She was an early resident of Oak Ridge and lived there when the gates were still up. She was active in Oak Ridge Civic Music Association (ORCMA), The Oak Ridge Women’s Club, and Board of Directors of the Knoxville Symphony.

Virginia was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She also worked for many years with her husband Harold at Cousins Construction Company. [Read more…]

Brenda Sherwood, age 63 of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 29.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Brenda brought laughter to all she met. She was a member at Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, mother, five sisters, three brothers, and one grandson, Blake Moore.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Lonnie (Mack) Sherwood; and children, Lonnie Sherwood Jr. and wife Cindy, Melissa Houghton and husband Bryan, Linda Hutchens and husband Merle, Sandra Sims and husband Gregory, and Faye Wesley and husband Jed; grandchildren, Beth, Tausha, Bradley, Dalton, Dakota, Alli, Destiny, Candice, Aaron, Scott, Channing, Jenna, Emily, Trey, Angie, and Cannon; great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Barrett, Bently, Mason, Cadien, Logan, and Haley; and several nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters. Mrs. McAlister was born July 19, 1963, in Oak Ridge. She grew up and lived in Oliver Springs most of her life. She has also lived in Knoxville and Oak Ridge.

Norma owned and operated a residential cleaning service. She attended Community Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.

Robert Eugene Stuart, age 41, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away, Thursday, November 27, at his home.

Mr. Stuart was born April 22, 1973 in Concord, North Carolina. He lived and grew up in Concord until his move to Richmond, Virginia, at the age of 17. He later moved to Tennessee in 1994, where he has continued to live.

Robert attended the New Midway Baptist Church in Kingston. He worked as an auto detailer and enjoyed working with his hands doing home improvement, carpentry, and auto restoration work. [Read more…]

Thomas “Tommy” Jarrell St. John

Thomas “Tommy” Jarrell St. John, age 76, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, November 27, at Methodist Medical Center.

Tommy was born June 9, 1938, in McMinnville, Tennessee. He and his family moved to Oak Ridge in the early 1950s and then on to Oliver Springs in 1967, where he has continued to live.

Tommy was a United States Army Veteran, and while serving he received several medals, ribbons, citations, and commendations. After his military service, he became a self-employed master plumber, an occupation he continued until his retirement. He was a faithful Christian and a very active member of the Oliver Springs Church of Christ, where he served in various functions. He enjoyed watching the New York Yankees play baseball and also his special dog, “Sadie Sue.” [Read more…]

Charles Denver Maberry

Charles Denver Maberry, age 88, passed away Monday, November 24, at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee.

He was born October 30, 1926, in Putnam County, Tennessee, to Edgar and Lola Maberry. He was a 1945 graduate of Gainesboro High School in Jackson County, Tennessee.

As a longtime member of the Highland View Church of Christ, he served for many years as a deacon in charge of the children’s education program. He was also very active in the benevolence program at the Providence House and he led the “50 plus” ministry at the church for over 10 years.

He began working at K-25 in 1945 and remained with the Department of Energy for nearly 47 years, finishing his career at Y-12. [Read more…]

Flora Pearl Coker Phillips, age 88, left this earthly home to be with God and her loved ones in her new heavenly home on Monday, November 24. Pearl was a co-owner of the Blue and White Service station in Devonia with her late husband, Reuben Philips.

She was born August 9, 1926, in the Charlie’s Branch Community in New River, where she continued to live throughout her life.

Her life spanned 88 years and she witnessed electricity coming to New River, paving of the New River Highway, and running water in the local homes. [Read more…]

She was born September 13, 1956, in Oliver Springs, the daughter of Naomi Taylor and Clifford Eugene Hunter.

Mrs. Quilliams was very family oriented and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very selfless and always enjoyed taking care of others. She was described by her family as being a wonderful cook. [Read more…]
