Janie Lorene Long Jones, age 45, born the 10th child of 11 to the late James and Mae (Guy) Long of Clinton, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Ft. Sanders Medical Center in Knoxville. She was of the Baptist faith and had attended Clinton High School. She had a great love for animals and loved her family.

Obituary: McKinley Bunch

McKinley Bunch, age 68, a resident of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Bunch was born on August 3, 1946, in Petros, Tennessee. He continued to live in Petros and attended Coalfield High School with the class of 1965.

McKinley joined the U.S. Army in 1963, and did basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. From there, he went to Fort Benning, Georgia, for Airborne training, which lead him to 1st S.F.G.P. in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While in Special Forces, he was deployed to Okinawa with 1st S.F.G.P., Korot, Thailand, Fort Dix, New Jersey, and served in Vietnam.

Obituary: Deborah ‘Debbie’ Carol Wyatt

Deborah “Debbie” Carol Wyatt, 65, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away on May 17, 2015.

She was born in Oak Ridge to parents Harlan Douglas Wyatt and Josephine Davidson Wyatt. Deborah grew up in Oak Ridge and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1967.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee in 1971.

She worked for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant for 42 years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, and was an avid gardener.

Obituary: Philip John ‘P.J.’ Marlino

Philip John “P.J.” Marlino, of Oak Ridge, died peacefully at his home on April 25, 2015. He was 99 years of age.

The sixth of nine children, P.J. was born on January 25, 1916, to Felice and Maria Marlino of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He will be lovingly remembered as a warm and gentle family man and friend, and as a lifelong scholar who never tired of learning.

P.J. attended Pennsylvania State University for his bachelor’s degree, majoring in chemical engineering. After graduation, he worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant before moving to Oak Ridge in 1945 to work on the Manhattan Project at K-25. As an Oak Ridge pioneer, he was present at key historic events including the first tests of the atomic bomb.

In Oak Ridge, he met his wife of 63 years, Frances “Millie” Marlino. They married in 1951 and raised five children together. P.J. and Millie were truly devoted to each other until her death in August 2014.

Obituary: Bill S. Denton

Bill S. Denton, 88, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2015, in Nashville. He was born in Celina, Tennessee, and spent his adult life in Oak Ridge.

Prior to moving to Oak Ridge to begin his long career as a professional engineer, he served in both World War II and the Korean conflict. He then happily spent over 40 years working at X-10, Y-12, and K-25 and continued working another 10 years using his vast experience as an independent contractor where his travels included Portsmouth, Ohio, and Rocky Flats, Colorado. He loved his work and took great pride in doing the job right.

Obituary: Willard Donald ‘Don’ Box

Willard Donald “Don” Box, age 86, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, June 13, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Leona Box; his sister, Winifred Little; and his son, Stephen D. Box, age 6, all of New Albany, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Donna Crosier Box; his sister, Mariam McNally; his son, Darren Box; his daughter, Joanna Schank; and his grandchildren, Dena, Matthew, Emily, Hadley, and Azrael.

Upon his graduation from the University of Louisville in 1952, Don accepted employment at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion plant (K-25), where he worked as a trouble-shooter for some 10 years before accepting a transfer to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (X-10), where he was employed until his retirement at age 65.

Robert Thomas Hamilton, age 89, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born October 31, 1925, in Cumberland, Maryland, the son of Wesley and Myrtle Kearns Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy.

He retired from Bechtel Corporation, where he was a registered professional mechanical engineer for 31 years.
