A Knoxville woman was arrested Thursday on charges she hit a Powell man trying to repossess a car at McDonald’s in Oak Ridge in December 2011.
Ebony Sharee Burton, 30, remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility on Friday evening. She has been charged with aggravated assault.
Oak Ridge police investigating a suspicious fire in a basement on North Illinois Avenue on Wednesday say they found drugs—including what appeared to be 147 grams of marijuana, 23 grams of hashish, and 73 oxycodone pills—in a bedroom, living room, and basement.
Police arrested Rockford Scott Crabtree II, 23, of Oak Ridge, and charged him with eight counts of either possessing or intending to sell or deliver the drugs. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Crabtree remained in the Anderson County jail on Friday evening in lieu of $50,000 bond.

The United Way of Anderson County has named a chair for the 2012 fundraising campaign and announced a fundraising goal of $1.4 million.
Tom Hilton is the chair, and “Lives Touched Through Sustained Services” is the theme of this year’s fundraising campaign, a press release said.
“It will take about $1.4 million to sustain services and be there when people need us,” Hilton said. “With the dollars you donated last year, we were able to be there when someone needed help over 51,000 times.”
The former vice president of environmental management at B&W Y-12 in Oak Ridge has taken a leadership job at USEC.
Robert Warther has been named deputy program manager for the American Centrifuge research, development, and demonstration, or RD&D, program, a press release said.
The city of Oak Ridge is looking for school crossing guards. The guards play an important role in the lives of children who walk or bike to school by helping children safely cross the street at key locations, a city press release said.
This is an ideal job for students, homemakers, and/or retirees to make extra spending money, the press release said. Applicants must be responsible adults at least age 18 and will work for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon on school days.
At the beginning of this new school year, the Oak Ridge Police Department wants to remind the public about school zone safety. All school speeding zones will be in effect, and police officers will provide extra patrols in different areas throughout the city.
“During the summer, we often get out of the habit of slowing down around school zones,” Oak Ridge Police Chief Jim Akagi said in a press release. “With school in session, please plan to take a little extra time to get to your destination. Caution, slow driving, and common sense will help reduce traffic accidents and violations.”

KNOXVILLE—A new felony property depredation charge and the possibility of more jail time have been added to two earlier charges filed against three anti-nuclear weapons activists arrested in July near a uranium storage building at the Y-12 National Security Complex.
The defendants—Greg Boertje-Obed, Megan Rice, and Michael R. Walli—are accused of sneaking into Y-12 before dawn July 28, cutting through three fences, and setting off alarms before spraying paint and splashing blood on the Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility, where bomb-grade uranium is stored.
The new charge, contained in a three-count grand jury indictment filed Tuesday, carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years. The three activists pleaded not guilty to all three counts during a Thursday morning arraignment in U.S. District Court in Knoxville.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities and United Global Technologies recently signed an agreement for a two-year supportive relationship under a federal mentor-protégé program.
Through this relationship, ORAU serves as a business mentor to UGT, providing consultation on a variety of financial, organizational, and business management topics, a press release said
UGT is an economically disadvantaged, women-owned small business based in Charlotte, N.C., that provides information technology and engineering services. It was founded in 2002 and focuses on the needs of federal, state, and local government agencies, the press release said.
Students who have already registered for fall classes at Roane State Community College need to pay their fees by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, to avoid deletion of their class schedules, a press release said.

People concerned about the community’s children are invited to attend the Nurturing and Safe World Child Advocacy Seminar Thursday in the Roane State Community College City Room, a press release said.
Stephanie Strutner of ASAP, Lisa Givonetti of CASA, Matt Reed of Faith Baptist Church’s Reformers Unanimous, and several other organizational representatives will speak about drug and alcohol abuse and addiction as it relates to the community’s children.
There is no charge to participate, and lunch will be included, the release said.
