Beth Ann McLeod

 

Beth Ann McLeod, age 52, of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 16, after a long battle with Huntington’s disease. A wife, a mother, a sister, Beth enjoyed camping and anything outdoors, needlework and anything crafty. She loved watching Big Orange football and Peyton Manning. Beth was a gracious soul with an infectious giggle.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine (Ginger) Osborn and Philip A. Lanzarotta.

She is survived by her loving husband of 21 years Michael McLeod, daughter Savannah McLeod, and son Jacob McLeod, all of Clinton; brother Anthony and wife Diane Lanzarotta of Oak Ridge; and brother Jeff and wife Joyce Lanzarotta of Montevallo, Alabama. Beth is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will all miss her greatly. [Read more…]

Sheila Judith Saltmarsh

Sheila Judith Saltmarsh, 74, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born November 13, 1941, in Woodford, Essex, England, the daughter of Leonard Arthur Bone and Constance Ivy Gale Bone.

Passionately interested in birds, she was a long-time volunteer at the Clinch River Raptor Center in Clinton, and she photographed birds around the world. In Oak Ridge, she supported the Holiday Bureau, particularly by making doll clothing and bedding.

Sheila enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Concord Yacht Club and the Swimmin Wimmin of Oak Ridge. [Read more…]

William G. “Billy” Sewell

Former Recreation and Parks director, helped start ORRA

William G. Sewell, affectionately known as “Billy,” passed away peacefully on October 2, 2015, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. The cause of death was acute myeloid leukemia. He was 72.

Billy was born May 24, 1943, to the late Frances and Bill Sewell, in Ravenna, Ohio. His family moved to Oak Ridge when he was very young, and Billy grew up in the Oak Ridge school system.

He is survived by his lover, confidant, his best friend, his beautiful wife of 47 years, Gail. He is also survived by three children: daughter Molly Sewell Tillyer, her husband Mike, and grandchildren Matthew Tillyer (21) and Nolan Tillyer (16); son Russell Wayne Sewell, and grandchild Logan Sewell (7); and daughter Amy Kathryn Sewell Torres, her husband Michael, and grandchildren Allison Arriola (15), Austin Arriola (13), Sophia Torres (3), Aaron Torres (15), and Annalyse Torres (14). Billy is also survived by a sister, Mary Lou Sewell Murphy, her husband John, and their children Mike, Melinda, Marsha, and Matt; brother Frank Sewell, his wife Pam, and their three children, Rachel, Thomas and Daniel; and brother Joe Sewell, his wife Mary (deceased), and their children Jessica and John. Mary Jean Resch, age 62, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at her home.

Mary was born June 4, 1953, in New York City and graduated as valedictorian from Marist College in 1980. She retired from Xerox several years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George McAlonie, and parents, Eugene and Jayne Resch.

Joseph Spottswood Crowell

Joseph (Joe) Spottswood Crowell, age 76, died Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was born April 25, 1939, in Asheville, North Carolina, and lived for most of his working life in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He retired from work as a U.S. Department of Energy contractor employee, and he was an avid outdoorsman, wine enthusiast, gourmet cook, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and step-father.

He was the son of Russell Alexander (Alex) Crowell and Sarah (Sally) Richards Crowell, of Enka, North Carolina. His parents and older brother Richards (Dick) Crowell preceded him in death.

He was married to Joyce Allsmiller Blair Crowell of Nashville, Tennessee. [Read more…]

Worked at Clinton Public Library, served in U.S. Navy

Gene V. Stewart, age 88, passed away at his home in Clinton on Thursday, September 10, 2015.

He worked at the Clinton Public Library and was well-loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed his “Committee Meetings” at home with his buddies and the time they spent together.

Gene served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Bossn Mate and retired after 20-plus years. After leaving the Navy, he worked several different jobs, then began working for the City of Clinton and retired after 19 years.

Sarah Morris Kiser passed away on September 7, 2015.

She was born on April 20 in Sparta, Tennessee.

She attended First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she was an active member for almost 50 years. She was a past president and member of the Oak Ridge Women’s Club (ORWC), member of the Oak Ridge Dance Club, and previously volunteered as a Pink Lady at Methodist Medical Center. She was an avid gardener, most known for her rose gardens. She won several awards for her floral arrangements.
