Timothy Bradford “Brad” Perry

Timothy Bradford “Brad” Perry, age 43, a resident of Knoxville and formerly of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville.

Brad was born February 6, 1971, in Oak Ridge. He grew up in Oliver Springs and graduated from the Oliver Springs High School in 1990. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and began his military career at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, where he graduated Army Training, as a 19D Cav Scout. He was next stationed at the Downs Barracks in Fulda, Germany, for two years. He later served our country in Desert Storm and returned back to the U.S. in 1992, when he was assigned to the 844th Engineering Battalion as a truck driver, until 2003 when he was re-assigned as a 79V Army Reserve Career Counselor with the 4th battalion Army Reserve Careers Division.

Brad played football while he was a student at Oliver Springs High School, and he continued to be a football enthusiast throughout his life. GO VOLS! Additionally, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially on memorial day on the Dragon. [Read more…]

Jonathan Lee Anderson, age 24, a resident of Oliver Springs, formerly of Coalfield, passed away, Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home.

Jonathan was born, March 16, 1990, in Oak Ridge. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Jonathan was employed at Mountain Top Boat and RV in Rockwood, Tennessee.

He is survived by his parents, Terry Anderson and Karen Belcher Anderson of Coalfield; by his companion, Alicia Kinser of Oliver Springs; by a daughter, Krisily Anderson of Oliver Springs; and by sisters, Vanessa Anderson of Sunbright and Michelle McCollough of Sand Rock, Alabama. [Read more…]

Shirley Ann Goodman

Shirley Ann Goodman, age 74, a resident of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 12, 2014.

Mrs. Goodman was born August 15, 1940, in Oliver Springs and moved to Knoxville nearly 60 years ago following her marriage to her beloved husband Fred.

In addition to being a loyal wife and exceptional mother, Shirley was a sensitive and gentle caregiver to scores of elderly patients during her 20-year career as a certified nursing assistant. Years later, after she and her husband enjoyed many post-retirement trips, Shirley was again called to service by becoming a full-time caregiver to Fred.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson King Rather and Elsie Hembree Rather; her beloved daughter Sherry Lee Goodman-Doig; and six brothers and sisters. [Read more…]

Helen Joyce Cooley, 79, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at her home.

Helen was born March 16, 1935, in Oneida, Tennessee. At the age of 8, she moved to Oliver Springs, where she had continued to live.

She was employed at both Burlington and Kyser/Rith and later at Abba in Rockwood before her retirement in 1995. She enjoyed feeding birds, squirrels, and animals that came into her lawn. She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church of Kingston. [Read more…]

Wanell Johnson Webber Bland, age 87, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Methodist Medical Center, in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Bland was born December 14, 1926, in Coalfield, Tenn. She continued living in Coalfield until her move to Oak Ridge, at the age of 20.

Wanell was a retired cosmetic specialist who began her employment at Loveman’s in Jackson Square. She continued her profession until her retirement, from Belk’s in Oak Ridge, at the age of 79.

Mrs. Bland enjoyed taking care of her family, flower gardening, sewing, quilting, and collecting china. [Read more…]

Sharon Lea Repass Marsh, age 66, of Lenoir City, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Parkwest Medical Center.

She was a graduate of Everett High School in Maryville and worked as an X-ray technician for nearly 40 years in Knoxville. She began her career with Dr. Roy Wedekind and retired from Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinic.

She was an active member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge, having served as director of worship and director of Christian education. She also sang in the choir.

Sharon loved cooking, traveling, rocking babies in the church nursery, and spoiling her grandchildren. [Read more…]

Myrin “Mike” Lundin, age 90, of Oak Ridge passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in Nashville.

Mr. Lundin was born October 9, 1923, in New York City, New York, and was a graduate of David Clinton High School in the Bronx, New York. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from City College of New York in 1943 and moved to Oak Ridge in 1944 and started working with Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant. During Mr. Lundin’s career here, he received many promotions and awards and was last working as a senior staff consultant to the director of engineering.

Mr. Lundin was a member of the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he was the founder of the Oak Ridge Group in 1947, Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Tennessee Joint Engineering Action Group, State of Tennessee Registered Engineer, Oak Ridge Board of Zoning Appeals (1963-1986), City of Oak Ride Mayor’s Land Use Advisory Committee, and the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce Industry Recruiting Committee (1985-1986). Kelene “Kelly” Elizabeth Bryson

Kelene “Kelly” Elizabeth Russell Bryson, age 56, of Harriman, left this world to join our Savior on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.

She was born October 9, 1957, in Orange County, Calif. Mrs. Bryson was employed at Martin Marietta Energy Systems for 24 years at the Y-12 plant, as a laboratory specialist/supervisor, before taking a medical retirement in 2002.

She was a member of Christ Community Church in Oak Ridge, and she enjoyed scrapbooking and photography.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Russell. [Read more…]

Roy Franklin Burney, age 62, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Burney was born March 17, 1952, in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Burney worked as a coal miner for Jackson Mining Company, as a bus driver for the Roane County School System, and he volunteered as a fire fighter for both the Oliver Springs and Blair fire departments.

Roy was a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church, and his hobbies included drag racing, restoring and repairing vintage cars, and his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren. [Read more…]
