Henry Clinton “H.C.” Shanks

Henry Clinton Shanks, of Oak Ridge, answered the call of his Lord to join Him in His heavenly home October 24, 2014.

Henry was born to Neal and Willie Ann Alvis Shanks on November 20, 1918, in Rogersville, Tennessee.

“H.C.,” as he was often called, was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a retiree after 39 years working for Union Carbide Nuclear Corporation as a boiler operator at the K-25 facility, and he was a long-time member and deacon of Woodland Park Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Selma Self Shanks; siblings, Claude, Fred, Clarence, Neal Jr., Will, Louise, and Leona; and grandson, Michael Childs. [Read more…]

Freddy Lynn Lunce

Freddy Lynn Lunce, age 62, passed away on Monday, October 20, in Oak Ridge.

Fred is survived by his son, Jacob and daughter-in-law Natasha of Warner Robins, Georgia; his daughter Julie Leathers and son-in-law David Leathers of Knoxville; and his former wife Debbie Lunce of Oliver Springs. Fred is survived by grandchildren Averie Leathers, Makayla, Makenzie, and grandson Callen Lunce.

Fred was born on June 13, 1952, to parents Fred and Wilma Lunce in Jefferson County. He graduated from East Tennessee State in 1972 with a degree in nursing. Fred also held certifications in counseling for drug and alcohol abuse. Fred dedicated the majority of his life to counseling and helping people that suffered from addiction. [Read more…]

Jeffrey Louis Ginsburg

Jeffery Louis Ginsburg, age 64, born April 27, 1950, in Oak Ridge, died Saturday, October 18.

Jeff graduated from Oak Ridge High School Class of 1968 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in human resources from Tusculum College.

He was a former business owner, city councilman, and president of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce. His recent professional work was spent in human resources, where he was vice president of human resources for LeGacy Resource Corporation. He also served as president of the Tennessee Valley Human Resources Association, was on the Tennessee State HR Association Council, and was past president of the Oak Ridge HR Association. He was recently awarded the ESGR Ombudsman of the Year for his work with the Army National Guard and Reserve.  [Read more…]

Lois Dearing

Lois Dearing, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, September 23. In keeping with her wishes, her family is submitting a tribute to her.

Lois began her earthly life on November 13, 1922, in San Angelo, Texas and entered her Eternal one on September 23, 2014, in Oak Ridge.

Our Mom’s journey was enhanced when she married the love of her life, Frederick Earl Dearing Jr. Together, they made many memories that they could pass along to the family.

When asked, “What was your mother like?”: She was an amazing person. Our mother survived the Great Depression and what it brought to her family. She saw her husband, brother, and father go overseas during World War II and the subsequent news that her brother was killed and her husband taken as a POW. When Fred, her husband, was liberated by General Patton, she told us that the circle was once again complete. [Read more…]

Betty Jane Hampton, 87, of Oak Ridge died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Parkwest Medical Center of Knoxville.

Mrs. Hampton was born June 10, 1927, in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, the daughter of Charles and Velma Greene. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benic Preston Hampton Sr.

She is survived by her son, Benic Preston Hampton Jr. and his wife Debbie, of Maryville; sister, Mary Frances Tolliver and her husband Berdell, of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Christopher James Hampton and his wife Kristen, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Heather Megan Mounce and her husband Cory, of Knoxville; great-grandchildren Samantha and Matthew Hampton, and Preston Mounce; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family. Anne Katherine (Power) Brown, passed away September 25, 2014, after a lengthy illness surrounded by her family and friends at Physicians Regional (formerly St. Mary’s) Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Born June 4th, 1950, she was predeceased by her father Chris J. Power and her mother, Virginia S. Power of Oak Ridge, TN and her husband William F. Brown of Knoxville, TN. Kathy attended St Mary’s School, Jefferson Jr. High School and Oak Ridge High School prior to attending Knoxville Business College.

She is survived by her brother, Chris J. Power IV and wife Sharon, her nephew Chris J. Power V and two great nieces, Lucy and Ruby Power of Oak Ridge.

Katherine was a loving sister and sister-in-law and friend to all who knew her. She was an avid Tennessee Volunteers and Tennessee Titans fan. She also enjoyed taking many spur of the moment road trips with her friends. [Read more…]

William “Bill” Bowen Luzader

William “Bill” Bowen Luzader Jr., 59, of Oak Ridge, passed away suddenly from complications of a stroke on September 25, 2014, at Ft. Sanders Regional.

He was born October 19, 1954, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to parents William Bowen Luzader Sr. and Betty Jane Harding Luzader.

Bill was managing owner of Docks N Stuff and owner of Quality Car Care for 38 years. He was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church.

Bill’s passion was cowboy shooting re-enactments. He was a member of ORSA Outlaws, The Smoky Mountain Shootist Society, and SASS (Single Action Shooting Society).

He was also a car enthusiast since the age of 10, a NASCAR fan, and an avid sports fan of football, especially UT and Titans. [Read more…]

Lois Marie Hyde

Lois Marie Hyde, age 95, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, September 23, at Briarcliff Health Center in Oak Ridge.

She was born May 27, 1919, in Bryson City, North Carolina to parents Robert C. and Lula W. Wiggins. She graduated from Swain County High School in 1937.

Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her loving and generous nature warmed the hearts of all who knew her. She and her husband, Clarence, and their children, moved to Oak Ridge in 1952 after living in North Carolina, Virginia, and New York.

Lois was a long-standing member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, where she had been a member since 1961. She worked in the nursery at the church for many years and was also active in Sunday School and the GoGetters group and made many lifelong friends there. [Read more…]

Braxton is survived by his parents, Gina and Mark Anderson; sister, Brittany Anderson; and brother, Chad Anderson.

He is the beloved first grandchild of Wayne and Sue Anderson, nephew of Suzette and Barry Byrd, Tim and Jan Anderson, and John and Tina Anderson.

Braxton is the fiancé of Becky Ramsey of St. Louis, Missouri.

Betty Hubbard, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. She was 84 years old.

For many years, Betty operated a day care in her home and is affectionately known as “Grandmamma” by many who she helped raise.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children: Glen (Karen) Hubbard of Delaware, Gene (Pam) Hubbard of Knoxville, and Angi (Eddie) Seiber of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Ron (Renee) Hubbard, Dale (Julie) Hubbard and Madison Seiber, all of Oak Ridge, Tommy (Laura) Hubbard and Travis (Cassie Rose) Hubbard of Delaware, and Tina (Leon) Platt of South Carolina; and 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Dorothy “Dot” Mae Northcutt

Dorothy “Dot” Mae Northcutt, 86, of Oak Ridge, passed away at home surrounded by her family on September 19, 2014.

She was born to parents Paul and Dovie Woodruff Marlar on October 18, 1927, in Burnsville, Mississippi.

Dot was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge and a member of the Elks Lodge #1684 in Oak Ridge and had been an active member of the Oak Ridge Boat Club, where she had served as an officer. Before her declining health, she was active in Oak Ridge Women’s Club and was an avid University of Tennessee fan, attending many of the games.

She was preceded in death by her children, Theresa Gail Bingham and Gary Todd Northcutt, and by her sister, Vernell Marlar. [Read more…]
