Two people have been charged in an alleged robbery that started with a car sale, court records said.

The robbery was reported to have occurred on Bolin Road on the west side of Rocky Top on Thursday, February 22.

The two people charged with aggravated robbery in the case are Michael Rodney Sharp, 50, and Stephanie Jean Hoskins, 29, who both live on Bolin Road, according to Anderson County jail records.

The victim reported going to Bolin Road to buy a car from Sharp, according to affidavits filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Clinton by Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Gregory Stanley.

While she was talking to Sharp, the victim said, Hoskins hit her in the back of the head with a stick, knocking her unconscious, according to the affidavits. The victim said she was unconscious for about five minutes.

When she regained consciousness, she was missing $2,053 in cash and four prescriptions that she had filled that day, the affidavits said.

Sharp sent Hoskins away and helped the victim look for her missing items, the affidavits said. Eventually, the victim and her mother started arguing with Sharp, according to the affidavits.

“As the argument became heated, Mr. Sharp pulled a gun and fired it,” Stanley said in the affidavits. “This caused both the victim and the witness (her mother) to fear for their safety, and they fled to their residence, where I met them.”

The mother told Stanley that she had accompanied her daughter to buy the car. When they arrived on Bolin Road, the mother went to use the bathroom, the affidavits said.

“When she came back, her daughter was laying on the ground and appeared to be in distress,” the affidavits said. “Eventually, her daughter was able to get back on her feet, and they began searching for the drugs and money. She said Mr. Sharp sent Stephanie Hoskins away while they were searching. While they were searching, she and her daughter began arguing with Mr. Sharp over the missing property. He pulled the firearm and fired a single shot. This caused both her and her daughter to fear for their safety, so they fled to their home.”

The victim and her mother identified Sharp and Hoskins in photo lineups, the affidavits said. Bond has been set at $75,000 for both Sharp and Hoskins, and they were arrested Tuesday, February 27, according to court and jail records. Hoskins remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton on Tuesday afternoon, while Sharp was released on bond about four hours after his arrest.

Sharp and Hoskins have court dates set for March 7 in Anderson County General Sessions Court in Clinton.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
