Charles Stephen "Steve" Smith

Charles Stephen “Steve” Smith

Charles Stephen “Steve” Smith left this earth to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, Sept. 26, after a long battle with leukemia.

He passed quickly and quietly at home and now is at peace.

Steve was born in Oak Ridge and lived in Oliver Springs.

His greatest love for apologetics allowed him to lead a Sunday School class for many years. He was blessed to have that opportunity to share his wealth of knowledge and love with all those who would listen.

Before Steve became ill, he owned and operated an over-the-road truck, which gave him the opportunity to travel around the eastern part of the United States. He was able to share his faith with many during these years. Other than his love for the scriptures, he enjoyed playing golf when he was able.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Frank Smith; paternal grandparents, Lucy and Frank Smith; and maternal grandparents, Willie and Albert Harvey.

Steve is survived by his mother, Nancy Harvey Smith, and wife, Theresa (Teri) both of Oliver Springs; sons, Charles Jamie Smith and wife Amy of Johnson City, Christopher J. Smith and wife Carma of Hermitage; and granddaughters, Abigail, Isabelle, Sarah, and Johannah of Johnson City, and Meekly of Hermitage.

The funeral service was at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at First Baptist Church of Oliver Springs with Pastor Waylon Payne officiating.

Family and friends met at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a 2 p.m. graveside service. The pallbearers were Joe Van Hook, Stewart Hicks, John Larkin, George Hileman, Drew Gaylor, and Gary Sanders. Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Wednesday Golf Buddies.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the church.

An online guestbook is available for condolences at www.sharpfh.com.
