Crane, medical director for The Courtyards, will continue to present informative talks on aging at The Courtyards on a regular basis, the press release said. She is also the founder and medical director of Genesis Neuroscience Clinic, at 1400 Dowell Springs Boulevard in Knoxville. The clinic provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and clinical trial opportunities for those with cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative dementias.
Lewy body dementia, with symptoms that closely resemble Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, affects an estimated 1.4 million people in the United States, according to the LBD Association. Often underdiagnosed, LBD refers to dementia associated with the presence of Lewy bodies, or abnormal deposits of certain proteins, in the brain.
Crane founded the Genesis Neuroscience Clinic after serving as associate director and director of clinical research at the Cole Neuroscience Center, now the Pat Summitt Clinic, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Her clinic is adjacent to the Genesis Brain Health Institute, partnering with Crane’s clinic as a resource for prevention strategies for those at high risk for developing memory disorders.
She continues to teach as an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at both the Graduate School of Medicine at UT-Knoxville, as well as at the UT Health Science Center Memphis.
Crane completed her undergraduate degree at Yale University and her medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. While completing her residency and fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, she was honored as a new investigator by the National Institute of Mental Health for her work in the behavioral symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. She is a founding member of the International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias.
The Courtyards Senior Living, licensed by the State of Tennessee, designs its facilities to offer a warm, safe, and caring community in a home environment for those in need of elder care, the press release said.
