Richard Allen Gassaway, age 50, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Methodist Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 29, 1961, in Oak Ridge, the son of Jack and Marie Martin Gassaway, who survive him.
Richard was a mechanic and auto body technician with Gassaway Automotive.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by wife, Carol Gassaway; daughters, Erin Gassaway of Knoxville, Amanda Gassaway of Wartburg, and Kelly Gassaway of Maryville; brother, Steve Gassaway of Clinton; sister, Keri Daniels and husband Todd of Knoxville, and their children, Claire Daniels and Jackson Daniels; stepson, Marcus Young and wife Deanne of Knoxville; stepdaughters, Elaine Young of Jefferson City, and Angela Clapp and her husband Tommy of Jefferson City, and their children, Thomas, Sophie and Lotus Clapp; and numerous extended family members. He is also survived by his faithful feline companion, Pete.
The family received friends on Friday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. In keeping with Richard’s wishes, he will be cremated.
The family asks that any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
