Sirens may sound several times between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Oak Ridge today as the Y-12 Public Warning Siren System is tested as part of a system replacement.
A B&W Y-12 press release said the vendor, American Signal, might sound each siren separately—and possibly more than once—to verify that it works properly.
During one test, half the sirens will sound and results will be recorded, and testers will wait 10-15 minutes before sounding the other half of the sirens.
The press release said the new sirens could be louder than the old ones.
Today’s siren tests “ensure that the public, Y-12 employees, and the environment would be protected in the event of an actual emergency at the Y-12 National Security Complex,” the release said.

At what point will the sound blowers take pity on the folks who live next door………..remember the joke Sara Palen said she could see Russia from Alaska.
Well I have the same problem, I can see Y-12 out my back door.
