Landlord summit for Anderson County landlords on Friday

There will be a free landlord summit for all Anderson County landlords in Oak Ridge on Friday.

The landlord summit is being hosted byÂ Tennessee Valley Continuum of Care. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, May 19, at the Scarboro Community Center, which is at 148 Carver Avenue in Oak Ridge. The event will include a free continental breakfast, which will begin at 8:30 a.m., a press release said. Reservations are not required.

The press release said landlords are encouraged to attend because many helpful topics will be offered, including:

MORE2 (Make Oak Ridge Energy Efficient)â€”These are energy-saving upgrades available to Oak Ridge homes for lower income home owners and renters.
Housing Choice Voucher Programâ€”Learn how landlords can secure rental payments by participating in this program.
Case Managementâ€”Learn how case management from various nonprofit organizations can help your tenant be successful in housing.
Free Legal Informationâ€”Learn about new housing laws, eviction requirements, fair housing, and other valuable topics.

This event is a collaborative effort of many local organizations involved with the Continuum of Care in the area, the press release said. Organizations involved in planning and offering this summit include Tennessee Valley Coalition for the Homeless, Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, Cherokee Health Systems, Lafollette Housing Authority, City of Oak Ridge, Oak Ridge Housing Authority, ADFAC, and the MORE2 Program.

Janet Mynatt, managing attorney with Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands and chairman of the Program Committee, said: â€œOur goal is to provide educational and helpful information to landlords as an effort to provide quality, affordable housing options for everyone in our region. This is the first of these summits and we plan to use it as a model.â€

Tennessee Valley Coalition for the Homeless Chief Operating Officer Stanley Taylor said: â€œWe are excited to bring great topics that are worthwhile for landlords. Landlords have many questions and perhaps misinformation surrounding affordable housing for households that happen to be homeless or precariously housed in our region that this event hopes to address. Events like this helps communities form partnerships us further our mission of making homelessness rare in our communities.â€

The press release said the mission of the Tennessee Valley Continuum of Care is to foster collaborative efforts that enhance awareness and create solutions to prevent, reduce, and alleviate homelessness in the region. The TVCC includes the following counties: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Monroe, Sevier, and Union.
