Project Linus Blanket Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge. Organizers said they’re nearing their goal of donating 30,000 blankets to children in traumatic situations.
A Blanket Day is a gathering of friends, family, volunteers, and others to knit, crochet, quilt, or sew blankets, a press release said.
“Can’t sew? Don’t worry we have plenty for you to do—you can help sew labels, check blankets or even learn to ‘tie’ a quilt,” the press release said. “Feel free to bring your crocheting or knitting to work on—there will be a nice lounge area for this. Or, just stop by to learn more about Project Linus of East TN and how we are nearing our goal of donating 30,000 blankets to children in traumatic situations.”
Registration is not required, but organizers would like you to RSVP so they can plan. There is no cost for the Blanket Day. Snacks and drinks will be available throughout the day.
The Project Linus Blanket Day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Roane State Community College’s Oak Ridge Campus at 701 Briarcliff Avenue (Goff Building).
You can RSVP at www.ProjectLinusEastTN.org or by calling Deb Miller at (865) 719-2862 or emailing her at [email protected]. Also contact Miller if you have questions.
When you RSVP, please let organizers know:
- Are you planning on bringing a sewing machine to make blankets? “We’d love that—bring your own materials or we will provide them for you,” the press release said.
- Would you like to use a machine but don’t have one to bring? If so, they have a few available for use.
- The number of people attending in your group.
Are you a high school or college student needing to complete your volunteer/community service hours?
If so, “please RSVP and come help us on Blanket Day,” the press release said. “Be sure to check in at the registration so we can be sure to get you credit for your hours.”
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
