Nettie ‘Lillie’ Enochs

Nettie “Lillie” Enochs, 100, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Sept. 8.

She was born to parents David Bennett and Nettie Eugenia Cornatzer Dungan in Tresvant, Tenn., on July 4, 1912.

After receiving her nursing degree, she worked in a doctor’s office and in the local hospital in Jackson, Tenn.

On May 5, 1936, she married John McNeil Enochs in Jackson, and in 1943 they moved from Jackson to Oak Ridge. Lillie was a charter member of New York Avenue Church of Christ, being the last of the charter members surviving. She was very active with Thursday’s Bible School, working in the kitchen.

Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, John McNeil Enochs, 1974, who was a fire captain with the Y-12 and the X-10 facilities, and preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Her survivors include her son, Samuel David Enochs, and daughter, Nettie Jean Enochs, both of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Donna Roach (Charles) and Karen Carroll (John); and great-grandchildren, Katie Roach, Kathryn Carroll, and Jack Carroll.

The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. with Harold Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
