Area residents and in particular area veterans are invited to attend the Oak Ridge Community Band/Wind Ensemble “Music for Our Military” concert on Sunday afternoon in Oak Ridge. The concert is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 6, in Combs Hall of Central Baptist Church, which is at 130 Providence Road.
The program will be a tribute to all veterans for their service to the country with music and a recognition of veterans in attendance at Sunday’s concert, a press release said. The program announcer will be Chuck Languth.
Veterans will be asked at the ticket table for their name, branch of service, and when they served, whether in peacetime or in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf conflict, Afghanistan, or in Iraq. During the concert program, there will be a recognition of these veterans and a heart-felt thank you for their service, the press release said.
Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert program.
In addition to the recognition ceremony for veterans attending Sunday’s concert, the program will feature music honoring veterans and also the men and women currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The guest vocalist will be Anne Scott, who will be singing “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables.”
Admission at the door is $5 for adults over age 18; children are free. Also, at this concert, season passes for just $15 per adult will be available for purchase; these passes cover admission at all the remaining concerts from November through April. Anyone who would like email notice before each concert can list his/her email address on the notification list at the ticket table.
The Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble/Community Band holds rehearsals every Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church, and area musicians are welcome to join. For more information visit www.orcb.org or call 865-483-3044.
