Irene West Daugherty

Irene West Daugherty, age 68, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Daugherty was born Feb. 12, 1944, in Harriman.

She lived and grew up in Coalfield and graduated from the Coalfield High School in 1962. In 1964, she married her late husband, Charles Jack Daugherty and moved to Oliver Springs, where she has continued to live.

She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a former member and choir director for 20 years at the Tuppertown Baptist Church. Her hobbies included singing and reading the Bible.

She was employed at Southeast Services in Knoxville before her disability.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Mattie Brewer West; by a brother, Wheeler Stapleton; and by sisters, Dessie Mayton, Zella Robbins, and Frances West.

Mrs. Daugherty is survived by a son, Charles Michael Daugherty and his girlfriend Kimberly Arndts; by daughters, Marva Golden and husband Joseph, and Angela Armstrong and husband Wally, all of Oliver Springs; and by grandchildren, Victoria Daugherty, Zack Hill, C.J. Hill, and Hannah Hill, all of Oliver Springs, and Cory Armstrong of Daytona, Fla.

She is also survived by a twin brother, Harvey West of Knoxville, and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many special friends including, Shirley Daugherty, Barbara Martin, Bobby and Angela Lloyd, Sonny and Sarah Armes, Alfred Russell, Pastor Ralph Wilson and wife Peggy, Pastor Jeff Parrott, Brian Ford, and Candice Aslinger.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 6, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home.

The funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Pastors Ralph Wilson and Jeff Parrott officiating. Burial will follow at the Indian Creek Cemetery.

The family expresses their gratitude to the nursing staff of 3-West at Methodist Medical Center for all that was done for Mrs. Daugherty during her illness.
