Oak Ridge High School students Katie Roach and Asher Chance recently took first and second place in The Congressional Medal of Honor Student Art Contest.
Roach, a junior, won first place in the 3-D category with her piece, “Red Heart Turns Purple.â€
Chance, a senior, took second place in the 2-D Category with his painting, “My Hand in Liberty.â€
These pieces, from the 2015-2016 school year, were submitted by ORHS art teachers Gisela Schrock and Anna Wakefield, respectively.
The Exhibition Committee works closely with art teachers who use this competition as a means of recognition and evaluation for their students in grades sixth-12th, a press release said. Area teachers were invited to enter their student’s photo, 2-D, or 3-D piece that they felt best represented the core values and ideals of the Medal of Honor including courage, integrity, selflessness, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism.
