Jack Elbert Murrah
Jack Elbert Murrah, 87, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, at NHC Health Care Center in Knoxville.
He was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Caryville, the son of Jessie and C. T. Murrah.
Mr. Murrah was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army. He retired from South Central Bell, where he was an installer. Mr. Murrah was a long-time member of Royce Baptist Church, and he enjoyed camping.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Imogene Casteel Murrah; sons, Jack David Murrah and wife Sherry of Knoxville, and Robert T. Murrah of Mobile, Ala.; granddaughters, Julie Kerkeles and husband Kenneth of Knoxville, and Mary Durham and husband Rusty of Nashville; and two grandchildren, Riley and Tyler Lis.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 2–4 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Mike Harbin officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway.
Mr. Murrah was a very religious man and has now gone home to be with the Lord. The family asks that any memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee.

Mr. jack was a sweetheart, he and Mrs. Mary used to come by the store when I worked there and get a newspaper and he loved old country music,,,, he talked about working for the phone company, he talked about a hurricane in the 60’s and he talked about how long he had been married and that his wife was the most wonderful woman in the world, he talked about his family and would laugh, he was unique…………if you ever met him you know what i am talking about he was amazing as a person……….. he’s definitely in heaven with angels…….
