School supply, book drawings for Clinton library users in September

Children who use their library card at the Clinton Public Library in September can enter a drawing to win a backpack full of school supplies, and adults can win a tote bag filled with books, a press release said.

The drawings are being held in honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month.

The press release said it’s easy to get a library card, and there is no charge. It said most public libraries give students free access to databases of news articles, encyclopedias, and test preparation materials, as well as homework help and resources.

“Today’s libraries provide all types of students with the tools they need to succeed,” said Essy Day, Clinton Public Library Director.

The release said public libraries are the No. 1 access point for free Internet access, an important resource for families without access at home when 96 percent of school districts require students to use the Internet to complete their homework.

Day also said libraries provide young readers with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun.

“It is for these reasons that now, more than ever, a library card is most important school supply of all,” Day said.

For more information, visit the Clinton Public Library at 118 S. Hicks St. in Clinton, visit the library online at www.clintonpubliclibrary.org, or call (865) 457-0519.

Thank you for giving us updates on local library activities. Libraries are a great resource in our communities and we should all encourage each other to use them.
