The Oak Ridge Community Band has its third concert of the summer today (Sunday, August 7) at A.K. Bissell Park. The concert starts at 7 p.m.
This concert follows a very successful concert before a large crowd on July 4, a press release said.
Today’s concert will be extra special as the program “Celebrate Summer with Music and Dance” will feature a variety of music and guest vocalists Lettie Andrade De La Torre and Brandon Gibson, trumpet soloist Tim Michaels, percussionist Bill Burkhart, and dancers from the Knoxville Swing Dance Association and from the SalsaKnox Dance Company, the press release said.
The concert is free. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor seating, and enjoy refreshments from Razzleberry’s Ice Cream Lab, the press release said.
Soprano Lettie Andrade De La Torre will be singing “Adelaide’s Lament” from the movie “Guys and Dolls” and with vocalist Brandon Gibson a duet “All I Ask of You” from “Phantom of the Opera.” Bass vocalist Brandon Gibson will sing “Ol’ Man River” from “Show Boat,” and trumpet soloist Tim Michaels will perform “The Debutante.”
The August 7 “Celebrate Summer” concert will include Latin tunes “Fiesta Tropicale” and “Serenata” featuring dancers from the SalsaKnox Dance Company on the stage with the band. Dancers from the Knoxville Swing Dance Association will take their turn on stage when the band plays “Swing’s the Thing” and “Big Bands in Concert.”
The Community Band will pay tribute to this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with John Williams’s “Summon the Heroes,” and the band’s clarinet section will be featured in Leroy Anderson’s “Clarinet Candy.” Other tunes on the program include “Themes Like Old Times III,” “Washington Post March,” “Rolling Thunder,” and the “Cheerio March.”
The Oak Ridge Community Band is directed by Dale Pendley and assistant conductor Lisa Michaels. For more information, visit www.orcb.org or call (865) 482-3568.
