The new Sears Hometown Store on Fairbanks Road is expected to be open in plenty of time for Christmas shopping, according to the owner, Oak Ridge resident Leslie Agron.
The new Sears Hometown Store is being built even as the former Sears department store is being demolished at the former Oak Ridge Mall.
Visible construction activity on the roof at the new Sears Hometown Store, which is at 142 Fairbanks Road, was scheduled to start last week.
The store was announced in May, and it will be a free store pick-up site for many items on Sears.com, Agron said.
The new Sears Hometown Store will be the only place in town where customers can find a selection of top appliance brands such as Kenmore, Maytag, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Samsung, Frigidaire, LG, and GE, plus a large assortment of lawn and garden equipment, Craftsman tools, fitness equipment, mattresses, and more through in store computer kiosks, a May press release said. It will be one of 18 Sears Hometown Stores in the state of Tennessee.
The Oak Ridge Hometown location will also offer Sears nationwide service, parts, and installation, the press release said. In addition, customers will have access to all products that Sears offers, which can be ordered online and picked up in the store without a shipping charge.

Jason Allison says
How many businesses are projected to fill the building?

Jason, I’m not aware of any other businesses that have been announced yet, but I’ll try to check on that. I think one rendering I saw did show one other potential tenant in that building, but I don’t know if it would be limited to one other business or exactly what the plans are.
Thank you.
