The Scarboro Community Alumni Association will hold a weekend of festivities July 29-30 that will include a parade, Fun Day, and Scholarship Banquet.

A Meet and Greet will be held Friday, July 29, starting at 6 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles located at 1650 Oak Ridge Turnpike in Oak Ridge.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 30, organizations, churches, schools, political officials, and entertainers will participate in a parade starting from Spurgeon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, going left on Benedict Avenue, left on Dillard Avenue, right on Hampton Road (passing the old Scarboro School Site), right on Wilberforce, and ending at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a press release said.

The Fun Day event will follow with an array of food and non-food vendors, music, and activities for youth and adults at the Scarboro Community Center, which is at 148 Carver Avenue, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The day’s activities will culminate with the Scholarship Banquet at the DoubleTree Hotel at 7 p.m. Scholarship winners and special presentations will be presented.

Cost for the Reunion Weekend is $60 per adult and $30 per child. Meet and Greet only is $40, Banquet only is $40, and Dance only is $15.

The cost for vendors for the Fun Day Event is $50 for food vendors and $35 for non-food vendors.

Participants for the parade and vendors are still needed. All parade participants are requested to complete a parade form or notify Rose Weaver at rs_wvr@yahoo.com no later than July 25.

The Scarboro Community Alumni Association was established in 2011 in an effort to empower youth in the Scarboro community, the press release said. The Association is comprised of former and current neighborhood residents whose goal is to encourage pride in a community that has birthed many doctors, engineers, writers, lawyers, scientists, scholars, business men, business women, political officials, and world renowned athletes.
