Students prepare for summer break, but learning opportunities just beginning for teachers

ORAU hosting free professional development workshops for area teachers beginning June 1

ORAU will host several short professional development workshops for East Tennessee educators in grades K-12. The free workshops start June 1.

Held at ORAU’s Center for Science Education in Oak Ridge, the half-day or full-day workshops are free and offer educators the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities that will enhance their STEM knowledge and curricula. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The workshops will cover a variety of topics:

  • June 1 – Project-Based Learning with 3-D Printers
  • June 2 – iPads in the Classroom
  • June 3 – SCRATCH Programming
  • June 6 – Nano-Link: Nanoscience in the Classroom
  • June 7 – Advanced Nano-Link (advanced nanoscience)
  • June 9 – SeaPerch: Underwater Robotics
  • June 10 – Improving Spatial Skills to Improve STEM Outcomes
  • June 13 – Nanoscience and Printable Electronics
  • June 14 – Get Organized: OneNote for Educators
  • June 15 – Strategies/Science to Teach Climate Change
  • June 16 – Google Drive, Docs, Forms and More
  • June 16 – Theory of Knowledge: How We Know what We Know
  • June 17 – Engineering is Elementary
  • June 27 – Scientific Modeling
  • June 27 – Simulations and Manipulatives for Teaching Genetics and Biotechnology
  • June 28 – Math, Movement and the Common Core
  • July 6-7 – Cyber Innovation Center—STEM: Explore, Discover, Apply
  • July 8 – Grant Writing for K-12 Educators
