Maude Etta Nelson

Maude Etta Nelson, age 91, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Harriman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Nelson was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Anderson County. She is a lifelong resident of this area.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She retired in 1986, following 36 years of employment at Burlington and Kayser-Roth.

She was a faithful Christian and a member of New Fairview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Nelson; by a daughter, Doris Ann Mullins; by her parents, Charles Edward Conant and Annie Anderson Conant; by sisters, Juanita Fazio and Teddy May; and by four brothers, Clarence Conant, who lost his life while in defense of our country at Pearl Harbor, Robert “Bob” Conant, W.C. Conant, and Martin Van Buren Conant.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by sons, Clarence Nelson and wife Gail, of Oliver Springs, and J.C. Nelson and wife Mary Rose, of Harriman; by six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a sister, Sarah McCown of Harriman; by nephews, Richard and Edward Fazio, and Jeff McCown; and by a special friend and caregiver, Vicki French.

The family expresses their gratitude to Harriman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center nurses and staff for all the care provided for Mrs. Nelson.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 25, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at New Fairview Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastors Jeff Parrott and John Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at the New Fairview Cemetery.
