A 23-year-old man was flown to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle crashed on Hillvale Road in Anderson County on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
At the time of the crash, Caleb Tyler Burrell, 23, of Clinton, was traveling south on Hillvale Road on a 2014 Yamaha YFR motorcycle behind a 2013 Ranger side-by-side ATV driven by Wesley Edward Tilley, 38, of Andersonville, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said.
Tilley was trying to make a left turn off Hillvale Road onto a private drive when Burrell tried to pass the ATV, the THP said.
The motorcycle driven by Burrell hit the ATV driven by Tilley at an angle, a preliminary report said.
Burrell was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville by a Lifestar medical helicopter that landed at Anderson County High School. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.
Tilley and his passenger, Stanley Roy Hawkins, 40, of Rocky Top, had minor injuries but declined medical treatment, the THP said.
The THP said charges are pending. Burrell was wearing a helmet, according to the report.
Hillvale Road runs along a stretch of Interstate 75 north of Charles G. Seivers Boulevard in an area between Clinton, Norris, and Rocky Top (north of the Clinton Walmart).
Authorities said THP called their Critical Incident Response Team, or CIRT, to investigate.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, Anderson County EMS, Anderson County Rescue Squad, and Andersonville Fire Department all responded to the crash.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
