At 4-0, the Oak Ridge Wildcats are undefeated in District 3-AAA, and the team’s goal is to go undefeated in the district this year, Coach Jeff Trombly said.
In their last district game on Thursday, the Wildcats beat Halls 3-1.
Their other district wins were against Campbell County on March 15, Central on March 22, and at Powell on April 5.
Oak Ridge is 6-5 overall.
Their losses have all been non-district games on the road: to Aiken (South Carolina) in the Border Classic in Evans, Georgia, on March 17; to Atlanta International (Georgia) in the Border Classic on March 18; to Lakeside (Georgia) in the Border Classic on March 19; at Bearden on March 29; and to Fort Payne (Alabama) at Smoky Mountain Cup on April 1.
The Wildcats have had had one non-district win on the road, beating St. George’s of Collierville, Tennessee, at Smoky Mountain Cup on April 2.
Oak Ridge plays at Gibbs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, in another district game. The team will be back at home to play Anderson County on Thursday, April 14.
They finish out the regular season at Hardin Valley (April 19), at home against Karns (April 21), Clinton (April 29), and Maryville (May 3), and at Farragut (May 5). See the schedule here.
Senior forward Jose Rodriguez opened the scoring for Oak Ridge on Thursday against Halls, with a free kick inside the left post in the sixth minute.
The game was tied in the 40th minute when the soccer ball bounced into the net when Oak Ridge tried to keep it out following a free kick by Halls with 20.3 seconds remaining in the first half.
Senior midfielder Lewis Wang gave the Wildcats the go-ahead goal on a 25-yard shot in the 64th minute.
Junior forward Austin Vinyard scored the final goal for Oak Ridge four minutes later, with about 12 minutes left in the game, after a shot by Rodriguez was deflected.
The Wildcats outshot the Red Devils 9-5. Each team had five corner kicks.
