Resurfacing work begins today on eight streets in Oak Ridge.

The eight streets are Outer and West Outer drives; Administration, Alger, and East Tulsa roads; and Arkansas, Jefferson, and New York avenues.

The specific areas to be resurfaced are:

  • Administration Road from Oak Ridge Turnpike to Laboratory Road,
  • Jefferson Avenue from South Jefferson Circle to Robertsville Road,
  • Outer Drive from Pennsylvania Avenue to New York Avenue,
  • Alger Road from Amherst Lane to Arkansas Avenue,
  • Arkansas Avenue from Alger Road to Atlanta Road,
  • New York Avenue from Oak Ridge Turnpike to East Vance Road,
  • West Outer Drive from East Wadsworth Circle to Pennsylvania Avenue, and
  • East Tulsa Road from State Route 62 to Tuskegee Drive.

Lane closures are expected, and the project could take six weeks to complete, a city press release said. Local traffic will be able to use the roads to drive to homes and business, but through traffic should seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

Before the resurfacing work is done, deteriorated sidewalks will be repaired, and handicap ramps and curb and gutter sections will be installed. New pavement markings will be applied after the resurfacing work is done, the press release said.

“Residents of the streets being milled and/or resurfaced should receive a notice advising them to have all vehicles removed from the street by 7 a.m. on the day of the scheduled milling and/or resurfacing,” the release said. “Residents planning on being out of town during the resurfacing period are advised to move their vehicles off of the street before they leave. Vehicles remaining on the street on the day of the work are subject to being towed.”

The work schedule could change depending upon the weather, and unforeseen conditions could also delay the project. The city said residents who receive a project notice should not park their vehicles on the streets until after the work is completed.

The work is being done by the Rogers Group Inc. under a contract with the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
