Thomas Clifton Tucker, 81, of Oak Ridge, passed away Aug. 14.
Born in Chicago, he graduated from the University of Illinois in chemical engineering. After accepting a position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, he earned a master’s in mathematics from the University of Tennessee.
He was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, where he enjoyed singing and composing hymns. For many years, he was a member of the Oak Ridge Chorus and also sang with the Knoxville Opera Company chorus.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Williamson; sister, Louise Bradsher; and brother, Harley Tucker.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Tucker; son, Brian Tucker; daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Jeffrey Wellman; son-in-law, David Williamson; son, Bruce Tucker; and grandchildren, Kathryn Tucker, Benjamin Williamson, Erin Williamson, and Jennifer Tucker. His brother, Robert Tucker, and brother-in-law, Doyle Bradsher, also survive him.
The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the New York Avenue Church of Christ with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Ridge Public Library.
