The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats will play Dyer County in the quarterfinals of the state girls basketball tournament on Wednesday.
The 2016 BlueCross Basketball Championship is scheduled on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday for the Division I Class AAA girls teams. It’s at the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
The game between Oak Ridge and Dyer County on Wednesday is the first Class AAA quarterfinal game of the day. It starts at 10 a.m. Central time.
Oak Ridge, the number one seed in District 3, has a 27-4 record. The Lady Wildcats beat Dobyns-Bennett, the number one seed in District 1, 39-32 in a Class AAA sectional game on Saturday to advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2010.
Dyer County, which is in west Tennessee north of Memphis, has a 27-5 record. Dyer County was the number two seed in District 13, and the Lady Choctaws beat Memphis Overton, the number one seed in District 16, 49-43 in another Class AAA sectional game on Saturday.
Other East Tennessee schools in the state tournament include Morristown West, which beat Bearden 58-49 in another sectional game Saturday, and Bradley Central, which defeated Stewarts Creek 68-58.
Here are the Wednesday quarterfinal games:
- Oak Ridge vs. Dyer County—10 a.m.
- Bradley-Central vs. Dickson County—11:30 a.m.
- Wilson Central vs. Memphis Central—1:15 p.m.
- Morristown West vs. Riverdale—2:45 p.m.
The semifinal games are at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Friday, and the championship game is at 12 p.m. Saturday. See the Division I Class AAA bracket here.
Other local Division I teams playing in the state girls basketball tournament include:
- Harriman, which will play Middleton in a Class A quarterfinal game at 10 a.m. Thursday; and
- Grainger and McMinn Central, which will play in a Class AA quarterfinal game at 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
In the Division II Class A girls tournament, Northpoint Christian beat Knoxville Webb 63-42 at Lipscomb University in the state championship game on Saturday.
The boys tournament is scheduled from Wednesday, March 16, to Saturday, March 19. The Oak Ridge Wildcats will play David Crockett in a Class AAA sectional game at 7 p.m. Monday at Wildcat Arena for a chance to go to the state tournament for the fourth year in a row.
