The Oak Ridge Wildcats play their first game in the 2015 Arby’s Classic basketball tournament in Bristol at 7 p.m. today (Saturday, December 26).
The first game for the Wildcats (14-0, 5-0 District 3-AAA) is against Dobyns-Bennett (2-7, 0-1 District 1-AAA). Oak Ridge beat the Indians 88-36 in Oak Ridge on Friday, December 18.
The winner and loser will both advance to games on Tuesday, December 29.
The 2015 Arby’s Classic, which is at Tennessee High School in Bristol, features 18 teams from four countries. Most are from the United States, with seven from East Tennessee and others from Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia. But there are also three teams from Germany, Grand Bahamas, and Canada.
Other East Tennessee teams competing in the tournament are Christian Academy of Knoxville and teams from Greeneville, Bristol (Tennessee High), Jonesborough (David Crockett High), and Bluff City (Sullivan East).
The 2014 champion, North Mecklenburg High School of Mecklenburg, North Carolina, is playing again this year, taking on Tennessee High at 5:30 p.m. today (Saturday, December 26). Webb School of Knoxville finished sixth last year but is not competing this year.
Oak Ridge played in the tournament in 2013—that was the season when the Wildcats finished as state runner-up—but did not play in the tournament last year.
The 2015 Arby’s Classic continues through December 31. Teams will compete for first through sixth place.
