Alice Leone Bowers, age 89, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, Thursday, Aug. 9, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bowers was born June 20, 1923, in Alliance, Neb.
She met and married her late husband, Francis E. Bowers, in Rapid City, S.D., in 1944 while he was serving in the United States Air Force. The family moved to Indiana for a short time, moving to Oak Ridge in 1945 and to Oliver Springs in 1955.
Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Orchard View Baptist Church.
She also worked as a secretary at the Tennessee Technical Institute in Harriman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Aspden and Dolly Fraedrich Aspden; by a brother, Albert Aspden; and by sister, Dorothy Miranda.
Mrs. Bowers is survived by a daughter, Patricia “Trish” Bowers of Chattanooga; by sons, Gary L. Bowers and wife Pamela of Clinton, and Tommy A. Bowers and wife Angie of Kingston; by grandchildren Michael Bowers and wife Tonya of Clinton, Heather White and husband Jason of Nashville, Hayley Lamoureux and husband Craig of Kingston, and Matt Bowers of Knoxville; and by great-grandchildren, Kieran and Trentyn Lamoureux of Kingston, and Madelyn Bowers of Clinton.
She is also survived by sisters, Pauline Bach and Agnes Mattson, both of Chadron, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews, special friends, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the St. Jude Tribute Program P.O. Box 1000, Department 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 11, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Gary and Tommy Bowers officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Anderson Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tom Tapp officiating.
